I always thought that if you can draw and you still do sprite comics, then its actually worse. :)

Mr. Neil, I don't know why, but there's something about your pixel art comic that reminds me of A Modest Destiny (Squidi's old comic)...

(I could be mean and say 'maybe it's the feat' but I won't :P Especially since it's got nothing to do with the feet...)

You guys know that I never got along with Squidi, but I suppose if I did something that reminds you of his work, I should take it as a complement. I always gave him credit for being a good author, and he knew how to connect the images to the story by having them actually emote.

Actually, I didn't know that you didn't get along with Squidi, but then again, so many people didn't get along with him that I suppose I should have just taken it as a given :P

But I didn't bring that up for a Squidi-bashing session or anything like that - I always liked his work, and still quite enjoy reading his thoughts and ramblings on his blog... I don't always agree with him him, but he's quite often a fascinating read.

Of course, bringing up Squidi also brings up a different kettle of fish - when people talk about how awful sprite comics are, they're usually refering specifically to sprite comics as comics that use existing video game images... rather than the wider issue of 'pixel comics' which use original art. Do people level the same level of hatred towards Diesel Sweeties as they do the latest 'Megaman recolour comic #100323.5'?

Y'know, I've never met anyone who outright hated something like Diesel Sweeties (though I've met a few that are disinterested in it). In some cases, the unique pixellation look seems to benefit some comics, and I think DS is a good example of that. I doubt it would be quite so popular without that distinct "Sweeties Edge" to everything.

The oversaturation is definetly a problem - you can't turn around without running into sprite comics in any webcomic community you care to mention... especially if they're just using the same situations and sprites as all the others.

I probably would complain about them still if they were still as big a nuisance, but I just don't see them around much anymore. I really have to dig to find them. Even on the DD front page, I only see one Sonic comic, one Megaman comic, and one Pokemon comic. That's really light compared to the way it was back in the day.

Oh, I haven't been complaining about them (although I can find quite a few on DD without trying very hard)... when I first replied here, it was to defend sprite comics and the decision to make a sprite comic that some people make - just like there's a 'instant dismissal' of sprite comics that has built up, there's just as instant a dismissal of sprite comic creators as well.
