I'm sure this has been suggested before, but have we ever done something like a "DrunkDuck Convention" sort of thing? Like, one on both coasts of the U.S., then one somewhere in Europe, Asia, etc. ...Wherever we have artists. Your thoughts?

I'm certain the reason they gave for it before was:
Too many users live too many places. So, the situation would be;
1. Where would you host it?
2. How could you secure enough people to come to exhibit.
3. How do you market it.
4. What about the Aussies?

sounds cool, but yeah I think #1 is the biggest thing- where?

plus I think before a 'drunkduck' convention there should be a general 'webcomic' convention... maybe?

@_@ i dunno, but if there was one I'd go ^^

Ooh! I'd definitly be interested in a webcomic convention. (Once my finances settle a bit) I'm surprised there isn't one already.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a webcomic convention already...surely there is, right?

I don't know too much about the webcomic community as a whole beyond DD, though. It seems very messy, what with community sites and personal blogs and everything. It'd be nice if there was a convention for them, and an accompanying website, to have something for the community to focus around.
Now updating without interruption, starting 2/16.

well after starting my Aussie Aussie Aussie forum I have found there to be a large amount of Australian webcomic creators on DrunkDuck

We would be fine having our own convention so really we're fine or maybe there could be a webcam link to simultaneous conventions perhaps.

Everyone's a tosser...but you slightly more

It would be less of a con and more like a bb-q/meet up.

A bb-q wouldn't be a bad idea thou.

I'm sure people could try little gatherings. But we would have to figure out where people are located.

Anyone interested in meeting other DDers should post their general location.
I am on the Ohio/West Virginia border in the USA.

I actually have met another DD user already. And I live in the same town as a one of Platinum's writers.

I'm sure other people have DDers just as close.

Well, I'll be bbq-ing it up in St. Louis, if anyone wants to come, they're invited.

Actually, StL would be a great place for another con, centrally located, cheap, lots of beer...

Ok, that's settled. Next DD con is in Australia! ^_^

I promised everyone that I'd try and come out to the US this year... Well, I'll try and save up and see you guys at one of your many cones.

Just make sure the rest of you show up!

it would definitely have to start out as a small gathering and work its way up, because cons are expensive to run and if no one shows up there goes the money down the pipe

perhaps we could organize a joint convention between the U.S and Australia. Have them happen on the same weekend. If we could get AT&T as a sponsor we could incorporate web cams and the like to make everyone a part of this international con.
There is a place called meetup.com where people of similar likes can talk and organize events.

Another idea is to actually hold several smaller cons on the same weekend. Like san diageo in the early days was a small gathering that over the years grew out of control.

Webcomics are in their infancy and have the potential to grow big one day.I say perhaps start small and grow big.
Just my two cents.

I like your thinking, plus Platinum/DD is in good with AT&T so not such a huge stretch. The only thing about having a joint international con and having live simulcasts would be the time difference. It's like a days difference.

Still great idea, great enthusiasm.

I would be all for a DD con. But yeah, as people mentioned above, it would have to start out small.

well to start some Ideas rolling. I live in Conneticut for example. If I picked the date out of thin air say April 15, 2009 and used my connections( not that I have any at the moment) to get a room at the marriot in Hartford for that date. Others near by could decided if this was close or too far. Now the next state over say Mass. if there is anyone from there could find a similar venue for theres. The work back and fowards new york vermont and so on...just a thought

Ohh and to add to that anyone who gets invold as a creator could chip in like 20 bucks. If there are say 20 of us thats 400 dollars to start the proccess advertising and stuff we might get donated or spread the word on forums, personal contacts, fanbase craigslist and the like
