Just picked up the Promethea Book 1 tpb... this stuff is so utterly, utterly awesome. I kind of missed out on ABC when it all came out because it seemed too much like Alan Moore's semi-ironic little playground, but the more of it I read, the more I realize how wrong I was. Damn DC for ruining it.

I'm reading Marvel's The New Avengers and finding it to be quite fun.

It's not what I normally look for in a monthly comicbook, but it's certainly got some great writing from Brian Michael Bendis. Plus, I can't help but love any comic with Doctor Strange in it.
A Roll of the Dice now with full-size pages!

John Clyde now with ten times the tacky Hawaiian shirts!

Although Mignola didn't draw the recent Hellboys, they were still good. I like his writing, so I'm liking the Hellboy and BPRDs.

Powers is finally picking up again, but oh god why is it so hard for them to stick to a goddamn schedule? If I could change two things about the series it would be 1) put them out on time dammit, and 2) your dialogue writing isn't THAT great so make your characters shut up sometimes would you? Otherwise I'm happy with it.

I recently read all of The Goon and Gotham Central but I prefer those in trade format so it's a long wait between them. :)

Have you been reading Lobster Johnson: The Iron Prometheus? It's a ton of fun so far, and Lobster Johnson getting a starring role is great to see. It also features the artist from Ferro City, which was a great TPB put out by Image.

I picked up the first Powers trade and Bendis' writing is actually what turned me off of the series. As much as I love Michael Avon Oeming's art, I found that Bendis' dialogue and insistence on repeating the same panel over and over again to be obnoxious and a waste of Oeming's sequential ability.

I've been a huge fan of The Goon since I picked up the first trade on a whim. It definitely does read better in a trade format, I think. I just finished the "Chinatown and the Mystery of Mr. Wicker" hardcover. I love the painterly aspects that Powell has been incorporating into his style.

I've also been reading 52 in TPB form and having a blast with it. I just finished Week 40.

Yeah, Promethea starts well but, if I were you, I'd read Books 1 and 2 and then skip to Book 5.

Unless you enjoy Moore at his most self-indulgent, you might find that wading through two and a half volumes which do nothing but illustrate every single card in the tarot deck and every single letter/number of the Hebrew alphabet etc is just a tad ... well, boring! It's a nice intellectual exercise and wonderfully illustrated but ... aaagh! Completely devoid of story and excruciatingly dull!

The story kicks in again somewhere in Volume 5 but you may find you'll want to slit your wrists before you get that far. And I'm speaking as a die-hard Alan Moore fan!

Of course, having read on various forums that Renee Montoya is now part of the super hero community and lover of the new Batwoman

Those both seem very un-Montoya-like.

Lobster Johnson

Oh yeah, this too :) I've only picked up the first one so far though, I'm a couple months overdue at the comic shop. It's kind of a pain to get to.

Runaways-the best comic (imo) right now.

Ultimate Spiderman

Buffy (BVK run)

Criminal-Brubaker can write.

Black Summer-Love Ellis

Highlander (complete mark)

Hmmm, in every case, I get the book because of writer and not the art. It definately was not always the case.

I've read the first three Runaways trades and I'm very impressed. It's a very fresh take on superheroes.

I just finished Proof #2, and this series is cementing itself as one of my favourites. It's about a joint operation called The Lodge that's set up by the US and Canadian governments to handle cryptids (basically mythical creatures like faeries and chupacabras and the Loch Ness Monster and all that sort of stuff). Ginger Brown, an FBI agent, encounters a golem during a mission and is sent to work with The Lodge, where it turns out here partner is none other than Bigfoot. Awesomeness ensues.

Hm. Well, thanks for the warning, but I actually do like Moore's esoteric rambling... the chapter about London's architecture and its relation to occultism in From Hell is one of my favorite parts of the book. We'll see. I intend to get through all of the ABC stuff eventually anyway.

Infinite Horizon-war comic about soldiers that were abandoned Saudi Arabia and need to find a way home.

Immortal Iron Fist-70s style kung fu comic with excellent art by David Aja and written by Matt Fraction and Ed Brubaker story right now is about a tournament.

The Spirit-Darwyn Cooke updates on the Eisner character Dave Stewart on colors simple effective stories with retro art. has 50s cool with modern sensibilities.

Jonah Hex-westerns are cool nuff said

Annihilation Conquest-epic space war in Marvel Universe Star Lord is cool

I'm reading:

Neon Genesis Evangelion (OMFG THIS IS AN AWESOME MANGA SERIES. BETTER THAN THE ANIME.)

The New Avengers & The Transformers (Bought and read all issues in one go. Kinda meh.)

The Darkness vol. 3 (Post First-Born Jackie FTW)

Archie Sonic the Hedgehog (Got interested in it a few months ago, stopped reading when they introduced Knuckles as Enerjak. Ugh.)

I tend not to get into Shonen manga since they tend to be so damn long, but I do buy Shonen Jump off the newsstand once in a while. But now I'm going to be buying it quite often since they started printing Naruto Part 2.

Yeah, no kidding.

OH! I feel dumb for having forgotten this before, but I'm totally in love with Maus. It's definitely not a recent, but it's a classic. Just thought I'd throw that out for those who haven't read it.

Too much continuity in the X-men books. It's not his fault. They could never a One More Day like they did with Spider-man even though it got rid of all the terrible Spider stories the JMS did

I just finished the first four issues of The Umbrella Academy [en.wikipedia.org] and I'm really enjoying it.

Here's the quick version of the plot (taken from Wikipedia):
The members of the Umbrella Academy, a disbanded group of superheroes, reunite after the death of their adoptive father, "Sir Reginald Hargreeves". Hargreeves, an alien disguised as a famous entrepreneur, collected the members of the Umbrella Academy shortly after their birth and trained them to save the world from an unspecified threat. After his death, the members carry on his plan to save the world

I'm also doing that other comic "Space Waffles ".
We now have a podcast called The Random Pirate Comics Show!
