What if these guys are right? What if God exists and He really is the vengeful, hateful God depicted in parts of the Old Testement?

You at least have to consider it if you want to have a well thought-out stance on this topic.

But DAMN! I don't think that's a God I'd want to be in heaven with anyways... either they're hate mongerers falsely representing crhistianity or they're representatives of a God that seems more villian than hero to me and thus one I want to avoid.

if they're right, i rather be in hell...the further i am away from the kind of god they say he is.

unless the god they are talking about is the devil.
vengful, killing, hates, jealousy, intolerance...sounds like the devil to me.

Old Testament God doesn't let anyone into heaven. Even the pious like Moses and Abraham go to until Jesus lets them into heaven.

In the Christian faith, the old testament is only there as a reference for the new testament. It's covenant no longer applies. You know the bible goes on for books and books ater jesus dies, and it's all about the formation of the church and how to best apply jesus's teachings to old testament teachings, what they change and what stays the same. The old testament is not the word of God anymore. The word of God has changed. The devil can quote scripture too.

I agree 100% with you. All of that stuff I already know.

My point was... "what if these guys are the ones that have it right? Not us!" Clearly, we know that's not the case. But what a scary prospect to consider, right?

This is part of why the Bible can't be taken literally. People who believe literally everything said in the bible have to take into account that God in the early parts of the Bible was completely okay with killing a bunch of Egyptians and Egyptian newborn sons.
