Weekly Writer's Challenge!

Well, what's this, you ask?
This is just a weekly writer's challenge where one person posts a challenge involving a random comic of the week. Basically the person who issues an challenge would also have to tell the writers out there what it needs to have in the fan fiction for it to pass the challenge.
This is not an competition, this is just for fun.

Writers would also have one week to write a story based on the weekly challenge. And then when next week comes, a new Challenge would be posted by one of the users here.

But how does one issue an challenge?

Well, here's my example of how a challenge should look:

*Comic of the Week: RandomComicNameHere
*Challenge of the week: Must have Peanut Butter and have Monty python references in a sentence somewhere in the fan fiction.
*Characters to use in fan fiction from the comic: Any characters you like!

But here's a few rules for this.

First of all, please do try to keep the characters chosen from the random comic of the week in character as much as you can. If the characters is simply way too much out of character, then it wouldn't seem like they were from the same comic posted in the challenge.

Second, Please try to keep it clean as you can, unless the said comic has some mature themes already in it. Kissing and groping is Okay. Some mild nudity is Okay, as long as it isn't too descriptive. No full-blown sex scenes, not everyone at Drunk duck would want to read those. (I would, but not everyone is me.)

Third Try and keep it short, between 500 and 1500 words. We don't want massive rambling threads. SHort stories enhance creativity ^_^
But, if you can't help yourself, post it on a HTML page somewhere and link to it in the challenge thread.

Turns out I can't sticky :( -edit I can now :D

Love the outline of the challenge, except the fact that you can't post in the thread. That's a good idea, because it would get too long, but HTML pages would be a pain.
Another idea would be to limit the length of the stories, say 1000 words? That might seem restrictive, but it can enhance your creativity... We could maybe post each week's theme in a new thread?
I don't know, I suppose it depends on how popular it is.

hmmm. I guess you're right on the html pages being a pain...

thats just in situations like that I just copy and paste from my .rtf files into netscape composer's html editor, and save it as an html.

so for me that isn't really that hard at all.. unless those people wanted to give thier story some fancy html coding... such as divide bars, etc.

but yeah, I guess depending on how short or long it was, they could post it in a thread if it isn't so long that you had to scroll down two pages or so just to look at other people's posts.

sure, go ahead and post a challege if you want to!

we'll just work out all the kinks. The writers here should find a good way to post their stories after they're done... me, I'll do it my own way.. the html way. :)

Hey, why didn't you post a challenge Aurora?

Ok, I'll post one:

Comic of the Week: Two Moons
(Because there a LOTS of pages and only about 3 or 4 characters, so it shouldn't be that hard to sart wirting about them)

Challenge of the week: Must have Peanut Butter and have Monty python references in a sentence somewhere. :-D

Characters to use in fan fiction from the comic: Rhync and Issen.

-keep in mind: Challenge ends next Tuesday. Try and keep it short, between 500 and 1500 words.

What do you think? Is that a good way to begin? We can just set up another thread for posting the stories in... Scrap it if you don't like it, it's your baby Aurora.

-Oh yeah, I can sticky now. Thanx Lukee!

oh yeah, opening up another thread for the stories to be posted is certainly a good idea.

and well, the reason why I didn't post an challege was because I couldn't think of any comics at the moment, I was a little bit too hyper for that.

This is such a forkin' cool idea.

Fork was a huge fanfic writer back in the day for The Transformers...Wanna see some dirt? My old page is still out there: http://www.geocities.com/lazenbond/

I guess we can't issue challenges until the current challenge has ended? 'Cos I'm thinking Slither and Friends would make for some good fanfic.

Argh, and just when I was extending the Two Moons fanfic thingo...

bugger :(

Ok then, I've just seen this so I'll add an extra day to the Pinky TA challenge (till next Wednesday), and we’ll have Slither after that. Fine?

And we’ll also keep the challenges open, so you can still do Two Moons or any past challenge you feel like. Just like with Eggbert’s comic criticism forum.

Wow Fork, you're a metallised anthromorph from way-back! I just scanned one of the stories and the writing is pretty good. ^_^

Ah, sorry Ozone! Things were going a bit slow, so I assumed that I might as well move things along.

But the challenges are always open, so it's ok.

Hey, if I issue the challenge, can I still make an entry?

Ok, fine. That can be the new challenge! But you have to submit an entry and you have to advertise it ok?

New rule to the challenge:
The challanger must do their own entry for their challenge. They also get to pick the best challenge. The one with the best challenge gets to pick the new challenge.

How's that? Will that encourage participation?
