What a strangely appropriate time of year to bring this up. I swear it wasn't intentional.

Have you ever hidden something in your webcomic? A secret message? A path to a hidden area of your site? An entire story arc waiting to be discovered? If not, have you ever wanted to?

Definitely. I like to hide things from future story arcs.

Another thing I do is sneak pop culture references in... some obvious, most subtle. Mostly, the reader need be particularly informed in on the subject to recognize the reference.

Mine are sort of backwards Easter Eggs. I'll draw someone or something in the background, throw out a random name just because a name is needed. Later, the character or object returns -- often as a key element to the chapter or many chapters later as an important player in the regular cast. (Sometimes I plan on a new character for something but instead draw from the pool of "background characters." ) When a new person shows up, look back and see if he/she is not so new after all... Most have been at least mentioned once before. (My Easter Eggs are not too well hidden.)

A secret message or something would be fun. I don't know if anyone would discover something like that unless you told them to look for it. (Of course, few of us find literal Easter Eggs unless we're told that some were hidden. :neenjah: )

I have snuck in little hints about future events into dialogue and backgrounds. Mostly though, I just put in silly little things. For example, posters. So far, favourites have included 'Lost Invisible- The Movie', 'Kojira' (which would imply a film about baby Godzilla) 'No duelling in the hallway!' and on Sarin's wall is a piece of Japanese caligraphy of the character 'mei', which is hanging in my bedroom too. She also has Strong Bad's 'No Loafing' sign on her pinboard, but when scanned, it turned out too small to see.
The posters seem to be quite popular with readers. I'm surprised sometimes by what people notice and don't notice!

Interestingly, I made a reference to Freddie vs Jason once, but no one got it. It wasn't even remotely hidden, in fact, it was the main joke! People thought it was a pun on Santa's name or a reference to South Park.

See what I'm talking about here.
