I don't know if it's fully painted, but the big works by Don Lawrence can easily described as art

Too bad he's dead :( He was a great guy (did lots of work just for the Netherlands, don't know why)

All you're doing with that is emulating the texture of paint. Which is cool, I guess, but I prefer any comics with good stories and art that looks good, but isn't necessarily painted. I've noticed when comics are painted it sort of takes away from the momentum of the comics. Painted works usually look like they're meant to sit there and look pretty. Comics are meant to display movement and action. Basically animation without inbetweeners.
But that's my opinion. It's what makes me respect Alex Ross as an artist, but prefer Ryan Ottley's art 100 fold.

I find that kind of funny since traditional animation generally was painted.
I think it depends on the comic. I've seen quite a few comics which simply wouldn't work as well if they were colored on the computer. TMNT had a few chapters that had to be CG'd for the graphic novels and they looked awful in comparison to the grittier pages colored by hand. The traditional coloring really contributed to the style and setting in a way the cleaner CG work couldn't. Medium should really depend on the kind of atmophere you want to create. I find that CG and computer painting have a sort of sterile look to it. It works best with scifi or comics with a lot of flashy presentation or special effects.

Yeah, but it was generally done with to just block in regions instead of display every stroke which is what painted comics usually try to do. But you're right, when done well painted works can still look like they're portraying action well.
