This happened to us once. Then they got all pissy because the neighbours complained that our house was starting to stink.
In response, my mum took all our rubbish and dumped in the reception area of the town hall. They were not amused.

I love how they play up the war vet angle. They just followed the proper procedure for their jobs. They can't go routing around in people's trash to sort it for them because:
1. Legal reasons
B. Time consuming
III. Sanitation issues
And I swear to god, if anyone makes a "They were just following orders" crack, I will murder you.
