the first one really doesn't feel all that dark to me, feels more Harry potter ish.
if I was a teapot I think I'd be orange.

a bit rougher around the edges I'd say maybe some cross hatching look at the hellsing manga for example It looks pretty damn dark, I think it's a more subtle details and more dark shadows that type thing.

But yeah look up some other dark mangas and comics.

Also I find Jeff smith does very well in conveying his darker moods in Bone, where he still keeps his style rather simmilar but it still feels alot darker than the good mood scenes. So maybe take a look at that aswell.

I have agree with Eddie.

My recommendation to start, would be to avoid the overly zany expressions often found in manga (as an example, the young wizard's expression in the last panel only conveys a lighter feeling of awkwardness).

Further, I would use a character design that isn't quite as clean and conventionally attractive. The character looks simply too well groomed. Even the lab he's working in is spotless. The crow's eyes, while sinister looking, are fairly cartoonish (reminded me of Disgaea).

Otherwise, the line work is pretty tight and well defined. I think its mainly a design issue here.

"You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process," he added. "That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle."

I like the 'darker manga' style, much better than normal manga actually lol. To be honest I get sick of manga, but I wouldn't mind reading a comic that looked like that. No offense to people who like manga, by the way.

I think they all look good! (I know that's not helpful. DX) I think if the lineart was a little thicker and more profound, it'd help make the first page "darker". But that's just me. It'll probably look better once it's toned, but like Eddie said, you might want to consider using hatching for most of the shadows.
Your inking is superb, btw!

Thanks a ton for the input everyone :) I really appreciate it you guys are the best. I'm going to leave the harry potter-ish page alone and move on, but i'll definitely be implementing your tips on this 2-page horror comic i'm working on right now. :)

I put the pages in thumbs for faster loading.

your hands when they're holding things are really stiff and lifeless.

it's something that i notice right away.

i tried holding a sheet of paper and a book like how the characters had it, and it just doesn't work. :S

Nice ^^

I like the big panels. They make good focal points.

Try thinking of hands as being able to add loads of extra expression to what your characters are saying or doing and you might feel more inclined to practise drawing em! Hands can even say the opposite of what the text is saying, if a character is hiding something or whatever - it's just an extra layer to reinforce what you're saying with your art.

Overall, this stuff looks great and your art has an appealing quality - I don't see why you couldn't make a career out of it if you're prepared to go hungry! (just kidding - you'll probably only starve for the first year or two).
What's it all about when you sort it out, Ozone?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
