I looked back through the category, and I couldn't find a single topic about Tropic Thunder. If there was one and I missed it, delete this thread and forget it ever happened. But I just decided to buy it on DVD, remembering it from a year ago pretty fondly, and damn, that shit never stops being funny! Robert Downey, Jr. as a black man worked so much better than I could have imagined before I saw this.

I have a hard time picking a favorite comedy; because to me Ghostbusters, Tropic Thunder, and Bruno are all about on the same level of hilarity. Yet they're all so different. Tropic Thunder though, without a doubt, is proof that comedy is still alive an well.

Great movie, loved every moment of it. When Ebert reviewed Bruno he said "this is a movie with no more than 30 boring seconds", or something like that. Well I think you can apply that same phrase to Tropic Thunder.

The thing about that movie was, it took every kind of actor there is and tore them apart. Ben Stiller, the action star whose career is declining and is trying to save it with things like the retard movie and the war movie. Robert Downey Jr. as the guy who wins awards and pulls all sorts of stunts on and off-screen that nobody saw coming. Jack Black as the gross-out comedy star who is addicted to tons of drugs and feels like a failure because all that he ever succeeded at was farting. Then there's the rapper-turned-actor who advertises his products in the movie and the kid that nobody knows about.

Cradle the balls, stroke the shaft, work the pipes, and swallow the gravy.

If this movie were a woman I would actually call it the next day.

If this movie was a woman I wouldn't dispose of the body after I was done with it.

If this thread were a patient, and I were a doctor, and this movie were a nurse, and the patient had cancer, I would devote all my time and money into finding a cure. And once I cure the thread, I would seduce it and the nurse into the most steamy threesome the world has ever known. The sex tape would leak and pollute a wide variety of streaming pornography sites, galvanizing our popularity and allowing us to hit the late night talk show circut where we would be known as "that doctor, and the two chicks he boned".

By the powers vested in me as Admin of DD, I pronounce you Man and Wife!

Now, which one's which?

----------
Now that's over with, I laughed by arse off during that movie and even more so during the commentary. WTF is wrong with me?

Nothing. Only the protesters against the use of the word "retard" thought it was offensive.

Robert Downey Jnr is way funnier than Stiller or Jack Black. That commentary rocked.

Yeah, all that Stiller ever said in the commentary was "Oh, here's this one actor. Man, he was such a great actor." Even with the guy who just popped up in one scene to give him a phone and never appeared again. Jack Black was kind of funny and he invented some new words, but Downey was pure gold the whole time.
