When this test footage was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con last year, the audience went nuts (then it was titled Tr2n):
...This year at the SD Comic-Con, they changed the name to Tron Legacy [en.wikipedia.org] and announced its release date of 2010.
Steven Lisberger, director of the first Tron, will return as producer, and the stars of the first Tron will be returning: Jeff Bridges (Kevin Flynn / Clu) Bruce Boxleitner (Alan Bradley / Tron), and will also include Karl Urban and John Hurt.
...And Daft Punk will be doing the music.
This film is gonna ROCK. I loved the first one; I can't wait to see this one!

I'm really getting sick of all these remakes. Sure, this movie looks awesome, but the first Tron was already awesome. This is unnecessary.

I agree, and Tron was awesome for its time, so I am worried as to how that concept will carry out in an age where computers are nothing new. It will be interesting to see what unfolds.

It's not a remake if it's a sequel.

Daft Punk is handling the music. So at the very least if the movie sucks the soundtrack will be rad as hell.

There's a TRON Legacy Facebook page that has some cool concept art & photos from the revived "Flynn's" arcade in San Diego...

I hope they don't screw it up. I love Tron and a sequel in this time may completely screw it over. Not to mention all the younger people who won't show the original any kind of respect.

Tron looks like a bunch of butts to me, but this new one seems pretty good after watching that trailer. I too hope they dont fuck it up.

Tron should have stayed back in the eighties where it belonged.

It will be interesting to see how people react to it. The first movie was an incredible concept in the eighties when computers were new and alien to people, but now that we are all used to computers, how will a concept like that work in today's world? Tron always looked dated to me, with glowing grids of lights and such--but somehow, after looking at the trailer, they have effectively managed to carry across this style into today, and it looks good. ...I'm sure it will do well regardless, as fans of the first movie (like myself) will flock to see Flynn and his world once again. The HD trailer looks incredible; I can't wait to see it in glorious digital 3D. That will be awesome. :D

A bunch of years ago they made Tron 2.0 for the PC, a game that was supposed to effectively be some kind of sequel to the movie in game form. I actually found the game to be incredible. As a first-person shooter it made the insides of computer space seem real and logical. And it proved that the Tron visuals can be updated, remaining true to the original vision, but looking advanced like we expect computers today. It even incorporated new concepts like the Internet and peripheral devices in ways that still mesh with the original concept.
I'd like to enjoy this upcoming movie as much as I enjoyed that game.

I liked Tron 2.0 as well, though I couldn't get past the level with the sniper rifle and the enemies running around in a maze. I kept getting stuck there, for some reason. ...The neon green on Clu's outfit in this new trailer made me think that he was infected with some sort of virus, like they were in the video game.

So after the new trailer unveiling the other day, is anyone else still stoked about this movie as much as I am? My husband is a little apprehensive--he's worried it will be another "Phantom Menace" where expectations are high but will not deliver.
(Trailer #2 here )
I'm still very excited about it and can't wait to reserve my tickets, whenever that will be...definitely gonna see THAT in IMAX 3D!! And Daft Punk....gonna be great!!!
Also, check out "secret" websites like FlynnLives and ENCOM ...

The new trailer makes the whole thing feel more epic. If anything, it's raised my expecations a bit. Seeing it over at the El Capitan with the booming bass really made the whole thing seem really, really cool. One thing I have to give the movie credit for is that it so far has a cool factor much higher than anything else I've seen recently. Lets hope the film lives up to the trailers.
