Astro Boy always seemed like a Pinnochio to me. He isn't really like Mickey at all.

In an abstract, superficial sense he is: His his two head spikes are always in the same position as classic Micky's ears always were in 3/4 profile shots. His whole head was a direct homage to Mickey really. And just basically being a power house, mascot-type, iconic character. He did that in the wake of Micky, and mostly likely because of Micky.
But yeah, he's obviously Pinochio, with all those related myths and fairytales thrown in...
