To stay on schedule or not?

Allright, I'm in a bit of an inner dilemma. I have been daily updating for over a month and have only missed 1 day.

However some of my audience would rather see me take a bit more time to refine my art. So I won't be able to update daily.

My question is, since my announced new schedule will be Wednesday-Saturday would it be recommended to NOT upload on days outside of this if I get ahead? Or go ahead if I feel like it as a bit of bonus or whatnot.

I'm worried this may mean some people that wait till the next update day might miss a page. But I kinda want to push for the page a day if I can, and not worry myself to death or rush if I can't.

I've updated a 126 pages without missing a beat. My artwork is cut and pasted, granted, but new characters and situations appear all the time. Some jokes end up re-used, but I always try to do a joke differently if I use it again. I almost never just re-use a whole pages layout again. I'm not the drawing artist type, I'm more focused on writing stuff.

Your extra pages should be put into the DD que system on the days you'd arranged to update. If you've told your readers to show up wednesdays and you post a new page on thursday that ties into a story line that was started the day before, then the ending is posted friday when evryone shows up again, confusion abounds. Most people just want to read the latest new comic for some reason from what I've found in my market research.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, that was what I was worried about. People missing days if I update off the new schedule... drats, my Prologue will take so long like this now =(

I did 2 or more months updating daily. I could keep doing it but the art suffers on occasions.

I'm still pretty new to this webcomics thing, so feel free to ignore me because I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I'm inclined to agree with marine here... reliability is key, and it works both ways. If you're telling people you're updating on certain weekdays and then squeeze something in between, they might miss it, and it ends up confusing them.

This kind of irks me too, to be honest - I'm about five weeks ahead right now and kind of excited about the stuff I'm doing, but I have to wait. The reason I have so much buffer material is because I know my output's going to slow down over the next few weeks, and if I upload too much now, I'll run out of pages. Sigh.

I don't think you should update more often if it compromises the art. That doesn't make any sence to me. One big factor of having a webcomic is the art, so if the art is not paid attention to as much or more than the writting, what is the point? I used to try to update at least three times a week, but I found with coloring and everything that I couldn't do as good as a job as I wanted. So now I'm down to one time a week, unless I've spent sufficent time on a page and can update more than once (like this week). I don't know if I'd suggest drawing the whole thing over again (since that would take ages) but from now on, I don't see why you can't change your schedule. Make a post telling you readers what your going to do, and stick to that.

I dunno, that's just what I think...

My outlook on the art is a bit different than most. I'm generally pleased with it even if it isn't my usual standard. Normally I try and use a process of elimination method to better myself in a faster drawing environment. I try to render my images into an acceptable state and look to see all the flaws. I pick some of the most glaring and then on the next time I try to improve there as I draw.

To me making the comic isn't just about the art. It's making the comic. And I know if I spend too much time seeking perfection that I will never see my characters develop. I will never see my stories unfold. My priorities are more in losing myself in the characters I have created than making the best art I can.

That being said the artist side of me does want to improve so that my comic, the characters, and story can come to life more. That is the conflict I have and the reason I decided to stop updating daily. The artist side of me won a bit =P

And, if I happen to get ahead I will simply have buffer now ^_^ I won't update on days I said I wouldn't update on.
