That's right. It has been officially announced
This is amazing. Finally, a sequel to StarCraft. Check out the last page of the screenshots-- Kerrigan looks badass.
going away - The Game Room
This is a time of rejoicing. Starcraft II has just been announced.

Wow, looks amazing. Hopefully my old 2003 computer can run that thing, but it looks like I'm gonna have to upgrade.
Knowing Blizzard's habits I don't think this is going to be released for a while. But it's going to be worth the wait.

Not for consoles.
I give it... 6-12 months before they change their minds.

I checked this board earlier and was getting worried when I didn't see a thread about this. Now I can be relieved.
I don't start threads. It's not my thing.

I've been watching game play footage religiously since it was released on gametrailers.com and god it looks awesome, but what really caught my eye is the fact nothing has REALLY changed. Ok, new units, new story, and improved graphics, but the GUI and style of the game is identical to number one, and that's a good thing :-D games like Empire Earth 2 were let down because they were so drastically different from there first game, or stuffed in some new features that made it more a chore than fun, this looks like it's keeping the fun factor number 1 was good for ^_^ I canny wait!

I'll rejoice when I get my hands on it.
For me, this is a time for a great sadness as I'm gonna miss another great game.

Oh sweet Mary and Joseph... It's about time!
Oooooh, this is going to be a Looooooong wait.
Man, I can't even begin to image the advancement in gameplay, graphics, and story they're going to put into this.

I don't really like RTSes... too much to think about, and I get too nervous. I played the original SC, and didn't like it too much. So I'm not particularly excited about this game.
It's a comic!

Starcraft 2 is gonna be a piece of ****. OK, maybe that's an exaggeration. It will be a superbly polished piece of ****.
You see, only Blizzard fanbois, Koreans, and ppl who don't really play much RTS in general, gets sucked in by the hype and think they're buying/playing the latest and greatest in RTS games.
The truth is, SC2 is a repeat of a 9 years old game with graphical polish. No gameplay advancements WHATSOEVER. It's expansion material, not a new game.
NINE YEARS. I don't care how good the original game was. You don't make the same exact game after 9 years of industry advancement. Look at, no, PLAY Relic's Company of Heroes, and see how far RTS as a genre has advanced since 9 years ago.
SC has become like a sport, or like a boardgame like Chess or Monopoly. Meaning, you can't change it anymore or fanbois will go ballistic. You can only change the cover... LotR Monopoly, Sesame Street Monopoly, Pirates Monopoly, The Simpsons Monopoly...
Maybe a lot of ppl like that type of video gaming ethos. To me, who loves the ever-changing and ever-expanding nature of the video game industry, that's a POS.
I'm not one of those ppl who say "I know I won't enjoy it too much but yeah I'll buy it just for the campaign." I'm not going to buy it, period.

seems a little soon to condemn the game for presenting nothing new. So far we know about 6 of the units. I know more about my nephew and it's 8 months from being born.
Worst comes to worst, SC for me was so amazing not for it's game play, the game play was nice and simple allowing anyone to throw themselves into it (so if that hasn't been updated and made horridly technical like Empire Earth did, this will be a good game for getting new people into RTS) but nothing breath taking. What made SC was the awesome plot. With so many mainstream RTS based on factual wars and so on, there isn't a lot of room for plot, which made SC a breath of fresh air.
But yeah, to call it a piece of "****" seems more like a dislike of Blizzard when based on so little info...personally if it is a dislike of Blizzard I'm fully on your side ¬_¬ they won't give me 2 months of my life back from the horror which is WoW, but I still feel SC2 holds a lot of potential but ether way it's too early to make a decision.
Of course all of this is only in my opinion.

All I know is that they better bring back Raynor and Zeratul... (sniff) I still miss you Tassadar...
...(ahem) I've been on the SC2 site a couple of times, I'm still waiting to see what features they're going to show off for the Terran and Zerg, so it's still hard to say how the balance on game play is going to fair. So far I like what I've seen on the Protoss. "My life for Auir" gotta love those Zealots. Just like WC3 they're definitly adding new elements to how the units and buildings work together.

You guys don't get what I'm saying. Of course there will be new units and new abilities (but no new race, wtf lolers). But that's just expansion material. What I'm talking about is game engine advancement which is notably absent for a sequel of a 9 yrs old game.
The only things that are "new":
1. You can CTRL select more than 12 units at one time now. Yay.
2. Graphics. Omg graphical chuncks of destroyed buildings/ships now fall according to real physics. Omg.
Again, all I can say is, if you don't mind the World War 2 genre, go out and buy Relic's Company of Heroes. See what the definition of a cutting-edge good RTS is. If all you've ever played in RTS is Starcraft and Warcraft 2-3, CoH will blow your mind. Playing SC2 will *not* blow your mind.
I can understand the exact reasons why SC2 cannot change, as stated in my previous posts. But I don't think it's a positive influence for the video game industry. Just like Big Game Hunters is not a positive influence. Just like all the Hanna Barbara animations was a negative influence for the USA animation industry despite the popularity of Flintstones/Jetsons. SC2 is a bad situation just like Hanna Barbara, because Blizzard is a respected industry standard which dictates the cultural ethos of its niche..

LOL.
And that is why Starcraft 2 will sell like hotcakes even if every Blizzard employee just takes a crap inside a SC2 box and then ship it off. There will be ppl who put the lumps of crap on an altar and lights incense around it.

Kidding! I'm not much into Starcraft, but I am learning, so I'll be ready when the sequel arrives.
