Actually, if you read the blog updates you'll notice the controls are pretty much exactly the same, except now there are some new ways to dodge as well as an additional special move. So really, they've made them even more complex.

I think you're still operating under the idea that they'll gimp all the other controller setups to accommodate the Wiimote-only version. There's still nothing to back that up.

Single button combos weren't in the previous games and quite frankly, it's an idea that really sucks. I generally dislike the automation of things like that in a fighting game. It's one thing to have a button serve as a motion or a single move requiring multiple button presses, but to dumb down combos to holding down a button is just bad.

Looking at the blog, I'm not seeing any new ways to dodge or additional specials. Looks like people have four specials and dodge the same way they did in melee. If you're referring to the final smash, that isn't so much a move as it is a personalized item and kind of fits into the "items which seem to be designed specifically to throw game balance out the window" category.

I'll probably go to the item editor and remove final smashes.

They dumbed the game down.

Really, when has Super Smash Brothers ever been about really deep gameplay anyways?

I don't mind the dumbed down fighter-ness of SSB, its its own genre really.
What I can't imagine is how they're gonna adapt the controller to the game. Motion sensing seems pretty useless for 2d games in general, unless its a lot more unique, like that Loco Roco.

You're supposed to use the Gamecube controller for that game. You can use the Wii-mote and nunchuck, the Wii-mote by itself, or the classic game controller...

I doubt too many people are going to do that, though.
Updates Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday's (depends).

The gamecube wasn't exactly the biggest thing on the American market last generation, so I doubt most people will be buying up gamecube controllers just for Smash Brothers. If you think most of the people buying the wii were gamecube owners, you're kidding yourself.

I loved my Gamecube. I loved it so hard. And I will be playing Smash Bros. with my Gamecube controller. I have about 9 or so of them. Not sure why.
