Don't think of this as another story about survival in a world full of zombies. This is, by far, the best piece of zombie media I have ever come across and if you aren't reading this comic, you need to be. This comic will rip your heart out multiple times and you will not come away from it the same.
The comic is ongoing, so issues are still coming out (I think it's around #65 right now). I highly reccommend it to anyone, whether or not you like zombies.
The Walking Dead
Writer- Robert Kirkman
Artist- Tony Moore
Image Comics
Comes out monthly
Also,
they're turning it into a tv show. This kind of comic can't be condensed into a couple movies, it would only work as an ongoing show, so look forward to that.

It's not about survival? That sounds like a nice change. I love zombies but they do get very similar a lot of the time. If I see this somewhere, I'll probably get it.

It's more about the survivors, their dynamics and relationships (in the middle of a screwed up zombie world), etc. When I first started reading it I thought it was really fantastic, but by the time the 7th or 8th TPB was out I was getting tired of it and stopped getting them. The series is brutal to its characters (nothing is guaranteed, characters may die, etc) which is interesting and creates a kind of hidden tension, but in order to keep things moving there always has to be some crisis happening. It got kind of tiring in a way and the same story patterns kept emerging. At the point where the crazy mutilated guy attacks them I just felt like the series was starting to get desperate for interesting conflict and I didn't come back.

I'm almost ready to join Skool's boat on this one. It started off great, but I dunno, every time I read a new TPB I just get more and more depressed. I know it's a zombie comic, and people should die. But the ways in which some of the characters get killed etc. is just so bleak I feel as though I need a Zoloft after I finish reading an issue.
I will admit though that it is a great piece of zombie fiction, and provided a ton of inspiration for my comic. I am curious to see how much they get away with on the TV series though, as it is on AMC and not a premium cable channel such as HBO or Showtime.

It's a Grizzly Bear battling Zombies. Do you need to know more?

It's not the bleakness that gets to me (it actually starts to feel a little more pointless than bleak sometimes). It's more a case of, "if I can assume that most of these characters are going to die sooner or later, why should I care about them?" Especially when new ones are introduced. The writers have a tough job of keeping people's interest and the crazy guy just felt like the first in what would become a list of gimmicky external conflict, because the internal stuff wasn't working any more.

Lately i haven't been liking Kirkman's writing, I don't know if he's spreading himself out to much or if he's got Bendis-itis but the latest issue of invincible just had my rolling my eyes(really? eve gave herself d-cups with her power, really?) and walking dead as of the last 6 issues have been pretty disappointing.
Wolf-man ends at issue 25, i feel like he could have downed the superhero aspect of it and focused on the actual wolf/vampire clans more, i'd be surprised if the series became anything more then invincible side fodder.
Great now i'm depressed. Hope Haunt delivers.

Well, yeah. That's kind of how I feel. It's like when you watch a horror movie and you're trying to figure out who is going to die at the beginning.

Personally, I hate zombie stories. I feel that it's become a burnt out genre between the various video games, movies, and comic books both serious and humor.
That said, even I see how good The Walking Dead is. In the the biginning it does come off as a repeat of "28 days later" but it really takes off from there. It's more about the character dynamic than simply a "survive the zombies Strategy" type plot.
I mean, with a on going series like this, I honestly was suprised by some of the things that happened and people that where killed. It probably wouldn't have been as suprising in one-shot type stories like with most movies.
