oh goodness, I love these tests SO MUCH. I'm apparently the creator of a gigantic anti-sue, because the lowest score I got for a single character was -14.

my characters usually never go over 10, to be honest. I used to have characters that'd break 30 but that was around three years ago, and I've toned down cliches since then.

Yeah, but the hilarious thing is, I used to have a character over 80 and she WASN'T a Sue. I mean, I wrote her regularly, and no one ever complained. She just wracked up the points because I used her in RP, fanfic, original fic, and because I RPed with her, I used her name online... etc... (dies) I don't think cliches are bad (TRAUMATIC PAST!) so much as how people handle them. I mean, as someone posted up there... their score was 34 for themselves! I know plenty of people with traumatic bits of stuff in their history. It's just how they're handled that are cliches. And total anti-sues can be boring and just as annoying. I mean, who wants to read about a fat, dumpy, out of shape person who's grouchy and selfish and lazy and of no importance in the world at all, with perfectly normal hair and eyes and clothing that you could get at Wal-Mart who's over 40 and looks that way with some sort of disability (probably adding to their grouchiness) and no interesting personality because they can't be spitfire or witty or potentially violent with no signifigant other or friends but it's not that no one hates them it's just that they're too ordinary to have anything more than co-workers and go home and grouch and be lazy and selfish, who grew up in a normal ol' town with normal ol' parents and siblings and nothing ever happened because they might be Sues if it did!

Ahem. Well, I got to that point for a while. Dang, my characters were boring at that point. Give people reasonably rounded out personalities, clear character faults, believable appearances, and make things that happen to them believable and even if they're the chosen brat of the universe who always saves the day... they may not necessarily be a Sue.

My point is, cliches in themselves aren't all bad, it's when they get too many or are handled badly. You can have a spitfire redhead with purple eyes and rebellious princess syndrome and handle it right... just handle it DIFFERENTLY. You can have a tramatized character who was abused and raped and ran away from home as a child only to discover they had MAD POWERS that COULD DESTROY ARMIES... and do it right. Just do it different.

No list could ever fully figure out how good of a character someone's written is. But they do help. Particularly for fanfics. (facedesk) I have so many fandom Sue tests bookmarked.

Should make a webcomic litmus test. Not for Sueisms, but for webcomic cliches.

Maverick Weisz from Silent Academy: 16

Honestly, this is much lower than I expected. Considering that he is a world renowned illusionist who is currently hiding from the magical world's public eye by working as a librarian at a high school.

Eep! I got 52 for my character Vale, which is sort of sad because I tried to make her the opposite of a Mary Sue. >_> I fail epically.

Hey, that was neat!

I did my four main characters; highest was a 15, lowest was a 5. But I think that's 'cause I tried my best to make 'em all selfish, jerkish, all-around terrible people. It still kinda surprised me that they scored so low, but I think the test is definitely geared towards more, er, fantastical characters.

'Did you choose your character's occupation and/or hobbies because you think they sound neat, glamorous, prestigious, or exciting?'

No, I didn't think prostitution was glamorous or exciting. XD

Franny - 16 pts.
Mee-Ran-Dah - 15 pts*
*man, that whole 'raped by your dad' thing really brought her score up... :/
Cecil - 14 pts.
Johnny ... -1?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?! LOL!
