I use Photoshop 7.0 or (rarely) CS2 from work. Just that :) and a tablet.

XD I'm old fashioned. I work primarily in traditional mediums. I plan to eventually make the transition to digital though.

I do everything in Illustrator. I like drawing with vectors, and it gives a clean look that goes well with my style. And of course, it makes text and speech balloons very easy to work with.

One of these days, Im going to learn to draw with a pencil.

First pencil, than inking pen, then I scan it and do the color in Photoshop Elements 2.0 (the old one with the sunflower)

Well, by just looking at my comics you can probably immediately see what i use... I just use the old regular Paint program on my Windows XP. :nervous:

I'm using Paint.net but I don't have the slightest clue how to work it but I have been using normal paint can someone look at my comic at send me tuts of how to use paint.net

i use paint.net for every thing but resizing, mspaint i use for resizing

The main things I use (in this order) are

Pencil & Paper for early draft
Wacom Cintiq + Manga Studio EX 3 for sketching then inking and making word balloons.
Wacom Cintig + Photoshop CS2 for coloring and non-line art effects.

I draw my images in non photo blue pencil, then I ink with a pen. I do all my digital editing using Micrografx 6.0, which is a pretty old program. I used to have version 7.0, but the CD shattered in the drive when I tried to reinstall it one day. O_x

i use paint it might be too big to fit on the comic page

Photoshop 7- I did not feel like using cs1,2 or 3 yet. They are collecting dust. Use for text and bubbles and special fx.
Painter 7 and 9 and 9.5- the brush engine is nicer than photoshop for inking
Illustrator 10 and cs2- cs2 has that live trace function which saves time on making vector art now. I recommend cs2 for vector illos. And I use it for text and making inks smooth sometimes.
Opencanvas-Nice painting program. I like to call it Paintershop. Feels like photoshop but it paints like painter almost. Great for inking and toning and painting.
Wacom Tablet-makes painting somewhat easier than a mouse.

But more inportantly I also start on paper and pencil with my microns and various other pens first before i scan my 8x11 or 11x17 paper.

I usually rely on Flash Professional 8 and always ahve sued flash because I animate mainly and drawing using the brush tool came so naturally I rarely draw using anything else.

Concept dieas for character poses etc. Usually make their way to paper and pen first then copied by eye to Flash.

Fireowrks is used should I require better filters etc.

I use quite a few programs to give my comic a distinct look and feel.

I use Poser as a reference for the anatomy, poses, and lighting of my characters.

I use Unreal Tournament 2004 as a 3d environment from which to draw backgrounds.

I use Photoshop to work on backgrounds and miscellanea.

And finally, I use Flash to draw, animate, and export my comic page.

Frankly, I *could* make my comic with Photoshop exclusively, using scanned-in hand drawings (which would actually look better than my computer-draw images), but it would lose its stylistic distinctiveness. And it wouldn't have the animation and interactivity that my readers love.

Anyway, I stick with Photoshop CS and a shitty Aiptek tablet. Works fine for me.

I use pens (they look like paintbrush markers though) to draw with and scan with HP software. Then I use GIMP program, ArtRage or Adobe Illustrator in no particular order. It varies.

I've been known to use any odd combination of pencil, ink, colored pencils, watercolor... whatever I feel like actually. It's mostly small stories I do that way.

But for Lost it's the ungodly combination of Paint, IrfanVeiw and a lot of copy-and-paste action. I like to keep it simple I guess.And since I don't really draw Lost, but just fits some pictures and a bit of text together, it doesn't really matter.

I use basic programs for my comic:

MS Paint for practically everything including text

Paint.Net for special effects

and GIMP...I haven't really found much use for it yet though, besides special effects that is.

For my comic "Return of the Bear's Teeth"- Parts 1,2,and 4 I only used Adobe Illustrator, I also drew these portions entirely with the mouse. In Part 3, I used my scanner and PhotoShop CS2 to produce the pages except for the type/speech bubbles which were placed in Illustrator CS2. It would be great if someone could take a look at some of pages and give a critique on my style or at least rate my page. Thanks. Jofo283

Painter XI and Photoshop CS3 are my tools, I use optical mouse which are the one's with the laser. I'll be getting a Wacom tablet soon maybe.

Old school, started out ripping off blank sheets of paper as a kid, pens...whatever I could find! Then graduated to inks with heavy stock paper that had a smooth finish to it. Now in the digital age, I'm all about the Adobe CS and Macromedia flair! I'd like to get one of those mouse pads with a drawing pen though...

Well, I am going to use Adobe Photoshop CS and Adobe Illustrator CS for my first comic, but in the near future, I expect to buy a tablet and a copy of Manga Studio.

Yet, I have a lot to learn about creating comics. I hope to do this well...

Generally I sketch and ink the page with microns, then upload it and clean up the sketch. Since my inking sucked- I used to re-ink with Adobe Illustrator, but now I just go straight to Photoshop CS2 to color. I have a tablet. <3

For 'More To Life', I do it all in CS2 (except for the most recent page), though.

For black and white cartoons I still use Graphix DuoShade paper with pen and ink. (for those who don't know, DuoShade is pre-treated with two different patterns of lines or dots for shading. each comes out using a different developer). I scan them and use GIMP just for lettering and sizing.

For color, I draw with pen and ink and edit, letter, and color with GIMP.

My process:
1) draw the images by hand, scan them into Photoshop at 300 dpi minimum
2) use Photoshop to smooth the lines (so they aren't quite as pixelated)
3) Photoshop box borders and background colors on separate layers
4) Photoshop flats colors on a separate layer
5) Photoshop highlights, shadows, etc. on a separate layer
6) save the final image as a JPG at 72 dpi, 500 pixels wide
7) import the image into Macromedia Flash to add text and balloons
8) export the images and viola, I'm done!

Here's the steps I take to making my life and times comic:

1. Get idea (mainly things that happened in my life etc.) ,and write it down
2. Draw characters with a pencil (been trying the whole blue pencil;actually, a blue colored pencil)
3. Ink them with a Micron pen (.5 - .8)
4. Scan on pc
5. Outline (I guess inking too is what it's called) and color them in flash. (once did photoshop...hated the while spots it left)
6. Add shadows, higlights, backgrounds, panels, and text bubbles in photoshop.

Yup... it's easy for me...

For Ocka in the DD civil war its basically the same, except I draw the backgrounds and panels instead of making them in photoshop.

Oh, and I use an optical mouse.... I plan to one day get a tablet

I use PS CS2 that my dad allowed me ta have (he uses it fer the program that he's currently working on). My scanner actually allows me ta scan in pure black and white without messing up at all. In fact, it concentrates completely on the ink and ignores pencil. First time I tested this out I was entirely amazed, so ever since I've been using that quality of my scanner.

Currently I'm experimenting before I sit down and do the serious comicing work that's ahead of me. But ya, combination of hand drawing, scanning and coloring via PS CS2.

I hand draw NecroLupus, then I scan it on, trim the edges with MS Paint, then resize it with IrfanView. I am currently working on a comic using openCanvas which is looking pretty good

Photoshop 6.0 :) yea it's old...but it works well for me. i don't have the $$ to get CS right now, but I honestly think that it's not necessary for my art style. I also just picked up Inkscape, so it'll be interesting how I'll figure that into the process. Still have to figure out how to get my scanner to ignore pencil marks, cuz that would save me the trouble of making eraser poo that gets everywhere :X
