Great Expectations

Great Expectations was the most unbearable piece of "classic" literature I have ever read. Is there a movie version of it that's actually good?

If anyone here DOESN'T say Grave of the Fireflies, it's because they've never seen it.

I've cried reading books as well.
yeah, I cried reading Battle Royale. Great book. Brought me to tears.
Indeed. So was the manga, since it gave so much graphic, fucked-up backstory to the characters, especially Mitsuko.

I mean, look:

Mitsuko's [img486.imageshack.us]
got [img486.imageshack.us]
problems. [img65.imageshack.us]
It's right-to-left, if you are even reading the words. :D

As you can see, it borders on hentai, even lolicon (since the characters are 16, except Kawada, who I think is 18), mostly when it deals with Mitsuko.

...poor poor Mitsuko... not to mention poor poor Yuichiro...

I haven't gotten this far in the manga yet, but I gotta say that I love Battle Royale to bits. Bits.

 My god, you weren't kidding!

That can't be good to link to on a public message board. That is breaking some rule. It has to be.

Actually that probably is okay.

But still! I'm sure that was some important character development or something going on there, but out of context, that is all kinds of rape murder porn.

Anyways, let's get back on topic here.

I hear some movies are sad.

... or RENT when Mimi dies(This is NOT a spoiler, damnit, the musical has been around for years, plus it's BASED off of a book that was around longer, which was based on an OPERA that's been around for a LONG time! Anyone who doesn't know that Mimi dies needs a little more culture!).

Mimi dies? I thought Angel died, not Mimi. I saw the play on Broadway and I don't remember Mimi dying...

But that is still one sad movie/play.

I didn't cry during it, but I got sorta teary eyed. However I saw it during school, so it would be a little...innapropriate for me to cry there.

Oh, but I also got teary eyed at the end of Stand and Deliver. Powerful movies do that to you.

Man, after Grave of the Fireflies was over, I had to take a good ten minutes to friggen comport myself I was crying so much.

Titanic, Braveheart, Rent, The Lion King, Iron Giant (which was completely unexpected), Big Fish, Joy Luck Club, My Dog Skip (seriosuly, have you ever seen this? I bawled like a baby), AI (in totaly agreement with people who like the ending), Jersey Girl, Pay it Forward and

of course

Son of Godzilla.

*sniff*

Oh, there are others, but, basically, I cry at any movie that has a very touching and/or sad part.

I will admit though that I never cried as hard as I did with Grave of the Fireflies.

Hearts in Atlantis made me cry towards the end. I just watched it this morning, it was sort of sad, sort of happy. I want to read the book now.
