Hey folks, I'll be dumping some webcomic-related art here, check it out if you wanna.

Mechageddon is an ambitious project which has consumed most of my time lately, and involves creating a daunting amount of artwork. I'll be posting sketches and in-progress pieces here as I work on them, along with some information on the project itself as it develops.

My first goal is to create fifty unique character portraits, in full color and with backgrounds. After a couple weeks I've got 'em all inked, shaded, and scanned. Here's some early work:

I'll drop some color stuff here soon.

I like your style. It has a very cartoony feel to it.

Also, the first guy with like, the gas mask? He's awesome.

Huh. Didn't know you were on DrunkDuck.

So is this a game or animation or is it another comic?
Hey buddy, you should be a Russian Cosmonaut, and here's why.

Yes, no, and yes.

Here's s'more inked work. I'll post some in-progress color stuff soon.

Mechageddon takes places in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of WWIII, following the last human city and the individuals who will shape the new world. The game will be playable online in your web browser, and will run alongside the comic. It is our goal that the game itself will have as much art and writing appeal as a comic, with the addictive qualities of an rpg.

Here's some character portraits with base colors. The background colors are just placeholders for now, there will be detailed backgrounds on all of these, too.

I've got lots of backgrounds and environmental art to do, still. It's shaping up to be a pretty rich and detailed world. A handful of powerful companies and other organizations are running the show in the post-apocalypse, most notably being the Water Company... drinkable water is so scarce and sought after that it is used as currency.

During WWIII, the human race fought against a race of genetically altered freaks called meta-sapiens. Although humans came out on top, most of the Earth's surface is now your typical post-apocalyptic wasteland. It's like Mad Max, only with more big robots and bizarre creatures.

Although the wastelands of Earth are inhospitable, they are also irresistible to treasure-seekers. Battlefields and military facilities lie buried beneath the sand, teeming with forgotten technology waiting to be salvaged by those brave enough to risk traveling the wastes.

Each of the 50 character portraits will also have 8 palette-swapped versions as well... which means I've got 400 portraits total to produce. I'm over halfway through the base colors, but I've been working on other areas of the game as well.

Hey folks, been a while since I posted anything, I know.

More recently I started sketching out all the various mechanical components for the real stars of the game, the mechs themselves. Here's a couple early tests of the methods that will be used to build the 'bots.

Given the large library of mechanical bits and pieces we're planning on cramming into the game, you'll have nothing but options when it comes to mech assembly.

I'll try to get back into the habit of posting regularly, if y'all are interested!

Here is a full mech assembly test, featuring a familiar design. This mech was built using a basic frame, bipedal legs, two arms, two industrial pincers, a socket adapter, and a warning light. In game, players will be able to set up color schemes for each part of the mech. Nifty!

These early tests are encouraging and things are beginning to come together.

Oh looks like the mech Ripley used to kill the Alien queen. Looks cool. I would definitely play this game... and read the comic too.

Just sharin' some more of the early stuff. Here's an example of how varying the primary and secondary colors of a mech component can radically change the feel.
