The list can get VERY long.

Controlling elements
Controlling Plants
Controlling just about anything =p

Here's a list of powers from some characters I have yet to introduce

Super Intellect
Energy Manipulation
Biological fusing
The ability to drop limbs and regrow them
Increased healing.
Organ Power (think Akira but in total control and without telekinesis)
Shadow Power (controlling shadows, jumping through them)
Webbing
Gravity
Turning liquids into plasma
raining energy that when striking an opponent small creatures erupt from their body
a light ball that "freezes" anyone whom sees it
controlling emotion
controlling light
can make portals and make things come from portals
shockwaves
alter reality
cloning
Creating minions
controlling magnetism
Warp space and matter
can split people into weakened clones
healing
ager
Absorbing and reflecting energy

I have more but I think that's plenty.

Read "The Devon Legacy".

For Superman alone, there's:
- invulnerability (or just increased toughness)
- x-ray vision
- heat vision
- cold breath
- super-powerful breath (no, not halitosis!)

Then the X-Men can add:
- projectile firing
- pyrokinesis
- freezing
- lightning
- magnetism
- retractable claws
- invisibility

Not to mention:
- web-slinging
- wall-sticking
- shrinking
- growing
- stretching
- control of plants

Gaah! The list is endless!

Just think how annoying that would be in real life ... You'd never see more than five seconds of any programme!
:D

Actually crocty, I'd like to see something like that. A superhero comic in which the main character has absolutely no super powers, gadgets or anything. Just a regular guy, with maybe slightly above average intellect. Nothing special about him, not even a costume to his name, but he does the stuff anyway. I actually think it would probably make for a more interesting superhero story. And it would have the humor aspect of pointing out the inherent irony in calling him a superhero.

Perhaps I should break out the pen and paper and write something down for this...

Well actually, I said that for a reason.
A friend of mine is making a comic about a superhero called "Ordinary man".
He has all the powers of an ordinary.
I dunno if he actually ever WILL make them in to comics...
I think he's gonna be animating them...

Sounds a lot like Man-Man at http://www.man-man.org/ [man-man.org] who was bitter by a radioactive human and gained the proportional strength of a ...human. Pretty funny.

Al Schroeder of MINDMISTRESS http://mindmistress.comicgenesis.com ---think the superhero genre is mined out?

Think there are no new superhero ideas?

Think again.

Commanding the loyalty of squirrels and having a squirrel side-kick. Like Squirrel Girl. Easily the most ridiculous super hero in the Marvel Universe.

Summoning and banishing of objects. And, um, perfect singing voice? Computer brain? The ability to curl up into an invincible ball? Tactile telekinesis!

Sad, huh? At least Beast Boy could take on different animal shapes -- at the actual sizes of the animals -- and they're all green (like him...for whatever reason he's green).

Oh yeah, and Raven (also from the Teen Titans) had a "soul self" that could leave her body and envelope things and people, travel to places, warn allies and absorb energy.
