Let's see who has a high KARMA "batting average" (Comments wise) - Just for fun :).

Now, to date I've received 433 comments for BLNT and 81 for BLNT:Synchronicity. Giving me a total of 514 comments received - In turn, I have commented 1449 times.

I'll do this like a batting averag...514/1449...Gives me a tit-for-tat average of (round to the nearest thousandth): .355.

Not bad. Can anyone score a higher average?

I have no idea what a batting average is... Sport doesn't work with my brain.

But ok...
Comments I've made:
6312
-I've had a break from doing many comments for about 9 months or so.

Comments on Pinky TA:
3732

Comments on Pink Skin:
192

Comments on White and Black:
54

Comments on Black and white 02:
9

The last two are template testers, so I'll ignore them. That gives me:
3978/6312

That gives me 0.63
Is that good?

HBN, Lesbian Space pirates, Charby the Vampirate, and Craving Control will be your extremes I think.

I've gotten 455 total comments and made 413 comments on other comics.

So that puts me at 0.907. Almost a one for one ratio. I wonder if Midge has made more comments than he gets. Not to say his comic doesn't get a lot of comments, its just that he is everywhere, commenting on everything :D

AGH! Why are you giving me homework?!

Comments made: 1,558

Devon Legacy: 1,829

Random Art: 13

Fan Art: 5

-3 Reported/Erased comments (you guys cheat if you didn't subtract these =P)

Total: 1,844

1,844/1,558 = 1.008

Guess this means I should comment more often?

EDIT: This isn't very accurate still... some of use reply to commenters in our comment area. This would also skew the #s to be higher =(

Read "The Devon Legacy".

I thought baseball was fairly big in Australia - LOL

To calculate a batting average in baseball, you take the times you made a hit and divide them into the times you went up to bat at the plate.

So if in a game, you had 4 at bats...but only registered a hit 3 times (i.e. no strikeouts, error-causing hits, sacrifice flies) then your batting average is 3/4 = .750 - Which is VERY decent. In fact hitting over .300 in baseball is a very good average.

By your standards, .630, I'd say you get back the "love" you give pretty well (63% of the time) - For every ten comments you give, you get about six in return. It is a different way of looking at your "karma" is suppose. What you do for others comes back to you 63% of the time

1771/3037 = .583 (I figured yours would be pretty high - you support a great deal of comics and seem to get the love back in turn).

Gotta switch the numbers, but yes, I think the margin of error for this would be a few points given what you said, JNP. Especially with those comments that get reported

1558/1844 = .844 (84% is pretty high - you have a great deal of respect around DD)

Switch the numbers YOU commented 507 times, Yet, you ger 1455 comments. This is a bit more interesting because you seems to get a great deal of comments back even if you don't comment much yourself. I imagine there are a few people here at DD like that too.

1455/507 = 2.869 (Much, much more than a 1-to-1 ratio than Loud_G's .907 - who gets 9 comments in return for every 10 he gives)

You seem to get about two comments to every one comment you give...pretty nice.

I'm confused... What are the numerator and denominator supposed to be? -- Everyone is doing it differently, and you corrected me and JustNoPoint opposite of what you did with Skullbie.

I suspect the number of comments on my comic has to do with the length of darned thing more than anything else. I have about 5 comments per page. Loud_G gets about 8 per page. (I'd like to think I have a good comic or a winning personality, but I pretty sure it's page numbers.)

you might think...but...
comments made: 9265...minus 2 comments deleted or muted.
comments received: 1540

1540/9265=.17

so to answer the question of the title of the thread...
it would appear no. :(
but I don't comment to get comments.
comment to encourage my fellow artists.

also I echo Usedbooks question.
I calculated comments recieved over comments made...i.e.
comments received divided by comments made.

so Skullbies would be .35

so Skullbies would be .35

problemo: 507/1455
Well let's check
BlntMakers
2.8 * 507 = 1419.6

Midges/mine
1 455 * .35 = 509.25

uh, are they both right to some degree then? 2.8 comments back which is 35% of the total?
Math isn't my best subject(ever) so...

.35 was rounded up, of course so that's why it doesn't exactly compute back to the initial figures.

but the calculation would be comments received divided by comments made...
that's where the .35 came from.

but we are discussing a karmatic equation...
we might be missing a variable...

marketing?

This was just fun math (Not homework JNP ;P).

In truth, MIDGE is right, we comment to encourage other artists in their craft. I just thought it would be fun to take the whole "karma" thing to the next step.

It's Comments Received/Comments Made. How many comments to you receive for every comment you give to others...so to speak.

Next, we'll calculate the derivatives.

Comments Made = 531-5 = 526
Comments Rec'd = 655+630 = 1285
Karma Ratio = 1285/526 = 2.44

Result is skewed because I like to answer my readers' comments in the comments section. But adjusting for that would only make the ratio increase.

Many comments I make are in-depth, though. No just 2-3 sentences.
