The end of the world

How and when do you think the world will end?

My real theory-
The Earth will last until the sun over-heats or a commet crashes into it in a billion years. Or, there is a commet heading towards Earth's PATH (Path, not directly towards earth) but it wont even hit the path until 2021 or something.
Or nuclear war.

My not even a theory but still fun to read...theory...not...read it dammit!-
I play so badass of a solo on my guitar that when you hear it you die.
Or, my more serious approach (still not going to happen though)
There is (not) a dust cloud heading towards our solar system that destroys everything in it's path. It's moving at almost the speed of light, and will (not) be here by 2016 and will not only (not) destroy Earth, but also the entire solar system.

Have fun!

Sadly, i think we will destroy ourselfs in a not too distant future.
We will basically nuke ourselfs, either by accident or in some kind of terror war/attack.

"we really, finally did it!! You maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God... damn you all to hell!"

Much like the ending of the original "planet of the apes" movie.

Assuming by "the world" you mean The Earth then probably not for a VERY long time, The earth is a planet, it will only be ended when it stops being a planet (IE it becomes something other than a planet, such as 2 or more planets, an asteroid belt or a quantum singularity, a turtle or something similar)

Earth being roughly six sextillion (I think) metric tons of iron isn't easily destroyed, a massive asteroid impact would end human civilisation easily, but the world would still be here.

So my answer to "how will the world end?" is; assuming nothing extra ordinary happens it will probably end when Sol expands.
Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.

Also, tell random people they are awsome! it helps!

Tater Salad
The combined suck of sprite comics created a giant black hole that sucks the entire universe into it.

At the current rate of sprite comics being spawned this hypothesis seems likley.

dolphins will invent technology that'll allow them to live on the land, and enslave us in one swoop, then sea cows will come and crush the dolphins, seconds before the apes come, destroying everybody except a few humans and developing a super powerful nation. At which point a man from space will return to find this conquered world and lead a rebellion with a hot chick, that'll end with the nuclear destruction of the world.

You can't really debate the topic. By the time we know the world is gonna end, we're all screwed anyway.

Not being able to prove something doesn't make it non-debatable. At least it never stopped religious fanatics or politicians.

I didn't say lack of proof is the problem, I'm saying that by the time we KNOW the world is going to end, the way it happens is irrelevent.

Why is it irrelevant? Its still a good idea to take educated guesses. Especially before it happens in hopes that it could be prevented. (Outside a webcomic message board, but you know what I mean.)

If it's prevented, then it's not the end of the world is it? It's a near miss.

Thats the problem with saving the world, when everyone looks at it in retrospect, it's not like the world acctualy, y'know ended. So they don't have anything to thank you for.

The world will end when I die. It could be from a gunshot, car wreck, cancer, or I could drown. Who knows! Soon as I'm gone, I will care even less then I do now (which is not at all) about the world. Considering I won't be around, the world (my world) will have ended. Thusly, once I die, the world is over.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fi-i-i-ine!

Haha, sorry, I couldn't resist.

There's so much debate on how war will kill us all, and maybe that's true, but if so, there's been so many wars already, how many is it going to take?

We have the nuclear weapons, but we have of yet to use them. If they were ever used, then it would spell out most certain extinction for humankind. I'm not sure anyone is really ever ready to hold the fate of the human race on their shoulders.

You know, I try not to dwell too much on the fate of "the world." The end of humankind is going to be of our own doing, I'm pretty sure of that. I just try to be optimistic about it and then whatever comes, comes.

Whatever happens, people will likely blame America.

My bet is on some kind of crazy global warming. I know in Europe right now the heat is STIFLING. I suspect that it's just going to get hotter and hotter, and we're all going to fry.

I dont get how nuclear war would end humanity, assume the classic scenario of the US attacking russia and retaliation and soforth, it is fair to assume that north america and russia both suffer 90-100% casualties and assume europe , most of the middle east, china and possibly australia suffer between 30-70% casualties due to strikes against allies of both parties and the like, Yeah pretty much all of the developed world is destroyed but there would be parts of the world that would still be entierly untouched by the actual war.

As for nuclear winter, assuming that actually happens on a long term scale I doubt the effect would really be that huge considering climate change and all, and even if it did people are clever and would work something out, as for fallout, that would probably be localised to the areas that were attacked.

While nuclear war would definatley spell doom for all directly involved parties and probably anything nearby there would definatley be pockets of humanity still around, look at north africa, it's huge and desolate, i doubt it would be affected at all.

About 4 or more stars will collide with eachother, exploding and creating countless black holes, and these black holes will spread throughout the universe until everything has been completely crushed.

Or that nuclear war theory.

Or something resembling the Book of Revelation (I think some fanatics believe that AIDS is what was meant by the locusts)

Or the sun dies out.

Or a really old mutant guy comes and takes over. :D

So... that wouldn't work. if they colided and expoded they would only form one black hole (with the total mass of all four stars).

Didn't you even read your own post?

......yeah, well..... how about countless sets of four stars colliding? Then you have countless collisions and countless black holes. Or something wierd happens that totally discounts all logic.
