Okay, so I am in a college class and I have to write a paper about something that science effects. So, I choose cartooning, and I thought were better to get the info then here on Drunk Duck. So What are some of the effects of science on Cartooning, and why does it effect cartooning?
I am Tybalt Brewer. I am a priest, a warrior, and a sage. But dammit I need money.*holds up sign,'will work for food.'*

thats a horribly broad subject :o

you could talk about the development of software (technological science!!) to simulate traditional inking, like photoshop, oc, etc.

or talk about what ink is made out of and how it has changed since like, early times.

or talk about how science has been added to fiction to make science fiction.. :P
other than that, this comment is pointless.

I would of chosen something more specific, like "the effects of science on your mom"

but then I didn't take my physics classes very seriously

Well just think about it. The explosion in the number of cartoonists (on the web and otherwise) in recent years HAS to be attributed to something. Why not science? The invention of the internet? Development of computers and software and the ease at which they can be used HAS to contribute somehow...

Compare real science to Dexter's Lab. Simple.

My own comic is completely computer generated. I can--surprise surprise--actually draw figures and illustrate quite well, however, the computer gives me freedom to let my imagination run wild in ways I would never have been able to do with traditional artwork. Instead of spending great quantities of my life LEARNING to create art/comics, I am actually creating. I have at times thought how nice it would be to have been born in an earlier time, and then I think about life without my trusty computer and GAH!!! No way Jose!
Then there is DD and other web-comic sites. How else could most of us dream of competing with the big guys at Marvel and DC! Technology, I love you for giving me a voice!

There is a good amount of science that has educated the public on how things work. This in turn has made for a readership that is often more sophisticated and in many story lines be more likely to expect a realistic story to conform to real scientific conventions. For example, a story about digging through the center of the earth today would be different than centuries ago when it wasn't know what was in the center of the earth. Let me know how the paper turns out.

on my keyboard i have the "make art" button, which makes it easier

i don't know if you wanna limit yourself to cartooning. because you can always expand it for how science has been instrumental in creating art through better synergy of computer and man.

i.e. painter programs that almost duplicates real painting look, people aren't afraid to mess up their masterpieces by experimenting but keeping a copy for safe keeping.

not just the programs and methods should be taken into account,
the actual content of the comics has changed over the years.
if you note the early years of comics such as calvin and hobbes, you will see that technology played very little role in the story, but as tech. progressed, it played a more key role in the development of the comic book world
The only reason man lives his life is because there is nothing better to do

Well, some cartoons do follow the laws of physics (many don't ). Some are also based on what science teaches (Dexters lab).

Maybe science helped cartoons look better in todays world?

Ah, you mean like those Rube Goldberg cartoons featuring his amazing devices? Y'know. Those extremely complicated devices that were invented to do just one simple thing.
