I was looking on project wonderful to see where successful webcomics get hits and I noticed that at least one of them (not naming names) got 150 hits today from the blog site "your web comic is bad and you should feel bad"
This is the kind of free publicity I need!
I just need to make people hate my comic enough that they will all start blogging about how much it annoys them and then *BINGO* web comic success is mine!

Now you're thinking. My surefire route to fame is to say something offensive and controversial and ride the hate train to Moneyville.ALL ABOARD! Next stop Cha-Ching.And the cool part about it? When they ask me why I did it,I'm just going to be honest and say "So you idiots would get mad start protesting and make me rich."

I like to hope so!

Harky, your webcomic is too likable to get bad publicity. >:[

But, It's true! All press is good press, as they say. Just look at people like Chase the hedgehog and webcomics like CTRL ALT DELETE. Their hits probably tripled when they got encyclopedia dramatica pages and they're still going.

I'd much rather have positive hits, though.

GracehFaceh- Noooo! Dont say that! Now I will never get any hits!
I'll have to go and work on a CTRL ALT DELETE style miscarriage story line, those are always good!

Now THAT'S story telling!

Question. Has creating controversy and splashing mud all over the place yielded any benefits to any of you?

I find that not just plastering cussing and controversial themes all over the net works.

I think you have to create something for people to argue about.

Any thoughts?

Though I haven't deliberately tried to make people hate I did just get over a hundred clicks from someone who gave me a really bad review.
They spent the whole thing saying how everything in my comic sucks...but hits wise I am still profiting.
Seems like being hated is the way forward!
Anyone else want to write a review about how much they hate Harkovast?

Is this really a blog? Can you post a link? I shouldn't be shocked someone would spend their time doing that but I am.

It's like Yahtzee's critiques for video games... the companies say that a bad review from him is better than a good review from anyone else

I got a review like that once.. Im suppose to be the worst Pokemon comic on the web.. I don't do pokemon.. I'm also the worst dragon comic on the web.. I guess its good to be worst at something.. as far as i can tale it did nothing for over all hits.. just one little bust of activity... and a lot of nasty comics for about a week... got hate mail when i had M Jackson sing for Hades.. did nothing for hits..

I wouldn't like bad publicity like that. It would really hurt my feelings if I knew people were flocking to my comic to just to laugh at how terrible it was. And that's all it is. You get a lot of pageviews, all coming to hate you. Pageviews don't matter that much, its the fans that matter! And you wouldn't get any fans, nobody who would stick around except to hate you more. You may even develop a hatedom! I fear my comics ever having a significant hatedom, like CAD or Dominic Deegan. I'd rather stick to getting views for the right reasons.

I copied and pasted all my many bad reviews onto my forum, so you can all check them out to see what I mean.
http://www.drunkduck.com/community/view_category.php?cid=4867&comic_id=31674

Every one of these sent me much needed hits.
So if any of you want to talk about how much you hate my comic, please go for it!

DrLuck here has turned excellent storytelling into a trafficking system for his stuff. A featured guy like him surely knows some tricks.
Read this comic. It is the greatest journal comic ever written and drawn. Trust me.

Aww, thank you for the compliment! :D

I personally like hosting the comic in multiple places myself. More chances of communities seeing it. I post my comics on DrunkDuck, DeviantArt, and my own personal website.

I've actually put my strips on The Webcomic List and Top 1000 for the good it'll do. It's actually gotten me a few views. I sort of just post around here, hopefully with some cheesy jokes, and some criticism.

Yeah I got a link on the Webcomic List and the Top 1000 place too. I also like paying for DeviantArt ads. I tried Project Wonderful, but it ended up being more cost-effective to pay DA per click than pay PW for time. I also know who sticks around by who takes the time to watch me on DA as well.

Ads are a little useless against me though, due to having the amazing ad block add on for Mozilla Firefox.

I was working on a comic called Captive that was pretty offensive...it got a lot of traffic after being featured in my local paper and looked by my employer. My employer then threatened lawsuit for copyright infringement. I was notorious around the workplace for a while and I was getting plenty of hits...shame the controversy caused me to end the comic.
