Since these award have gone long without action, I'm going to take a bit of lead and say that these are the (un)official award categories. This thread is still open for discussion, more categories can be added if they are reasonable. Know that on award day, these categories have a chance of being there.
(this list was ripped off from sub and FAL.)

this sounds good. keep it simple, maybe we can debate about adding other types of categories in here for the next one. but the important thing is to keep going because people are getting less and less enthusiastic about this not taking off.
i cut some off because it seemed like it was repeating. if you have too much categories people won't have the stamina to finish it all

It's great to see there is some action going on. I also think it's looking good.

I would still like a Best Community Project.
Only problem is that you don't have that many choices.

Has it been decided to exclude sprite comics then? (Not looking for a debate or a flame war, just asking)

This year we are gonna keep it simple...streamline with basic categories.
it's better to keep the first one simple and then see how it goes rather than make it complicated and it never gets off the planning stage.

- Best character
- Best story
- Best website design
The list we have so far looks nice and simple, but I also like these.
Maybe, just maybe, we could disregard "Best story" (we already have best comic & best writing) or even "Best backgrounds" (we already have best line art & color).

-best character/story would probably go under best writting.
-i'm not sure adding best website would be good for a webcomic award. we are awarding them for thier comic, not site design. it's like saying best use of complete sentences. a website is just icing. it doesn't make a good comic better.
-i will be adding best pixel art though

I like the whole "keeping it simple" thing... but c'mon, to say that we're gunna keep it simple would be the equivalent of "you're too stupid to comprehend other genres."
Now that the awards are officially underway with the polling site I say we try and at least add the rest of the genres. After all, we do have 2 months to decide on our favorites... I'm sure people could make their decision by then.

True. This is the first one we're doing so we can keep it simple and if it goes well, it'll be safer to add other categories without it getting too complicated.

i just wanna keep the first one simple.
i wanna see the logistics of it.
if you have 16 genres and not enough people doing the counting, it'll be hard to get it off the ground.
if there are 16 genres= 1/2 of the dd population (500)=8,000 votes to be polled/voted
adn that's just the genre.
if you include the rest it would be 23 categories.
11,500 votes/polled
and multiply that by 2 since it is separated from poll and then voting=23,000 all together.
like i said. we observe the 1st award to see how this place out and if it is feasable to add more things. we can also see how we can streamline it.

That's a good idea, as the years pass and awards come and go, we add new categories.
Think of these Awards as a Test.

This looks good in my eyes. Those award categories based on popularity actually sound like a pretty good idea. It'd be interesting to see who comes out on top, and I think all three categories would yield a hight voting turnout. But that's just me talking.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this genre, but what about super hero genres? Just wondering if that falls under other categories.

I think penis should get a special achievement award. As long as I've lasted here without any appreciation (well minimal appreciation) I deserve something that says I'm better than other people.
