I've never had anyone guess my gender... I never really thought of it. I usually put my gender in the description of yourself that websites give you, because "XeaRi" in my opinion isn't particularly oriented toward any gender.
I (perhaps unconsciously) tend to associate a person's sex with their avatar. I'm not sure why. I know it's by no means a good way to judge, but my mind automatically makes that association. Unless the avatar is of one of that person's characters, and I know that. Then I might feel differently. Maybe.
Out of curiosity, would anyone care to guess from my art? I'd actually like to know how people think I draw. I don't know what gender I draw better. Maybe I haven't been paying enough attention or something... O.o

I checked your art by clicking on your banner. Trust me, I've been observing people's art for a LONG time, I can tell a thing or two. ;)

I have to think back, that was a while ago... I think I felt that your work was done by someone who's obviously a professional and so would be drawn in any style that you happened to chose for that project; so could be either sex. It looked like you'd gone "I'm going to create Return to Donnelly in THIS way in THIS style!" and then done just that :)

You're a hermaphrodite!
No, I think you're male, but I can not tell that from your art. You've done the generic, stylised manga look too well. Could be either.

My secret is revealed!
No, I'm a guy. I just read a lot of manga aimed at both audiences. That influenced my art a bit. *Sets down his Real Bout High School manga down next to his volume of W Juliet*

@ Kohdok:
I guessed correctly. :D
Just have to dig past the generic manga influences and look at the artist's true essence in his lines.

My artwork, storylines and manner of typing is rather insanely feminine... XD If anyone got my gender wrong I'd kinda worry about their state of mind. ^^;
I'm generally quite good at guessing gender from artwork - I find women draw women more realistically and often somewhat plainly (no over-exaggerated boobs and bums or, at the other end of the extreme, no "mature" female characters having the physiques of twelve year olds) and their men are drawn with much more idealism than realism. Men's drawings are more often very precise and they put a lot of attention into little details and a lot of emphasis is put on drawing things exactly right such as anatomy and machinery; their work also tends to be blockier and less flowing than female's artwork. I can quite often give a good guess at someone's nationality too~ Well, I can more often than not guess if someone's Western or Asian or other... that's about the extent of it though. ^^;
Though the artist of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga amazed me by being female~ (Have a look at the comic here ) cos her artwork just screams "MALE". Also, when I found out the artist of the controversial manga Kodomo no Jikan [en.wikipedia.org] about a nine year old attempting to seduce her teacher was written by a woman too I was taken aback with shock. XD There are definately some exceptions... more with female artists I think... but generally I think the differences are quite apparent.

There would be no way I would have EVER guessed that FMA is drawn by a woman. Every little nuance and clue points to a male. She's trained herself well.

MMORPGs and their forums have deadened my senses. After a pretty funny incident involving a Vah Shir Bard who I knew was a guy the whole time, but couldn't stop calling him a her because of his character's female cat avatar ... I just gave up.

In a guy's comic there will be more male characters.
ALthough it would appear differently based no the two stories I have here, most of the stories I write are focused on women. Not big breasted, strong thighs, bubble butt, zero waist women. Real women.

You know... nearly everyone used to think I was a guy for a long, long, long time. I think since when I first started using the internet up until last year people thought I was a guy. And honestly, I didn't mind it. My parents had imprinted in me that if I revealed I was a girl on the internet I would be raped or something to that nature. My old, old comic was (I admit) a generic manga-type that mostly revolved around the "boy stereotype," I guess. Also, my avatar had a picture of a boy named Clyde in it. Even Ozone thought I was a boy!
Now, eh, I don't really mind either way. I'm just glad my art is changing and improving.

Mad-Maz-Mazoo!
Heh. When people kept thinking I was female, even after reading my comic I used to think "what do I have to do?? For F**k's sake!" :)
I think that just came from my avatar -used to use Pinky, thinking that'd help increase interest in the comic, but instead people just assign a gender to you based on it, and identify you with it: people even calling me "Pinky".

I think it's very obvious that I'm a girl because of the things I write about. I think that if someone saw a gallery of random pieces of art I've done, I'm not sure if they'd be able to tell. I've drawn everything from cutes girls to guts everywhere. I don't think someone can assume that an artist is a girl from the seriousness of the art, the colors, ect. You'd be surprised at what some guys would draw and what some girls would draw.
