I just wanted to say that I spent all of yesterday unlocking all the characters.

Oddly, Jigglypuff was the last one I unlocked, simply because the method for doing so described online was somewhat inaccurate...

Aww, Jigglypuff doesn't have my trademark blue bow anymore. Now she wears a hat, instead. Oh well...

Got it tuesday.

Really good, but there's something about it that bugs me. Probably has to do with me being used to Melee, and I'm guessing there are enough minor differences to annoy me. I can't pinpoint WHAT the problem is though, and it's minor enough that I imagine it'll go away soon enough.

Speaking of Melee, I think the core gameplay was a bit better with it than with Brawl. Things just seemed... I dunno, more balanced maybe? Like I said, I'm not sure what it is that's bothering me.

Brawl beats Melee HANDS DOWN with features though. Level editor and Subspace Emmisary are all awesome, and online looks like it'll be interesting (Haven't messed with it yet), though I doubt it'll replace CoD4 as my online game of choice, primarily because I can't really comunicate with the people I'm bludgeoning/being bludgeoned by.

tl;dr Exceed expectations on some points, falls short on others. Overall 9.75/10.

Also, no idea about codes. I never really cared about the Wii's online enough to mess with them.

Brawl exceeds my expectations in everyway which is hard since they were really high. The only complaint I have is the super smash. It's really unbalanced some characters have way better super smashes than others.

Like comparing Jigglypuff to Zero-Suit Samus. There's really no contest which is better...

Jigglypuff: I turn huge and explode everyone off the screen!!

Zero-Suit Samus: Oh yeah? Well I...uh...have a wardrobe de-malfunction...yeah...*Sigh*...

Ok, just played the online...

It's horrible. Lags like a bitch and NEVER gives you the kind of match you want. And then there's the smash balls...

God, the ONLY way anyone wins online is with those things. No shit, I played about ten games, and the guy who got the smash ball ALWAYS won. I tried to turn off items so that it wouldn't pop up, but it I couldn't get into an item free match.

;_;

I've really got a mixed opinion on this game. On one hand, it is extremely fun, filled with cute features, and has unbelievable music. On the other hand, the online play is terrible, the subspace emissary storyline is...well, questionable, and it just seems like there are a bunch of things that needed to be fixed, but Nintendo completely neglected to.

On a more specific note...

The Good:
- There are some very fun new characters (i.e. Ike, Metaknight, Snake, Poketrainer)
- Some of the new items are enjoyable
- Great music
- Better maps than in Brawl...and the inclusion of the only good maps from Brawl
- Fun little map editor
- The smashes are mostly quite awesome-looking
- The co-op subspace emissary and challenge modes was a great addition

The Bad:
- Wario. 'Nuff said.
- A lot of the new characters are just bland re-hashes of old ones... *cough*Lucas*cough*
- The re-balancing of classic characters has just made some ridiculously strong and others weak
- A lot of the maps are still annoying as hell to play...the game just needs more calm, still maps
- What the hell is with that keyboard typing scheme? It's like a cell phone letter-pad...and why can your name only be 5 characters?...WHY?
- Although the little trophy minigame with the coins is cool at first, eventually, running through over 1000 coins can be bothersome when all you want is a couple of trophies. At that point, you just want the old lottery back.

The Ugly:
- The Subspace Emissary story doesn't really make much sense...don't get me wrong though, it's fun to play and the cut scenes are pretty...but it's just a bit odd.
- The online feature is terrible. For one, trying to enter a game is difficult enough, what with the incredibly busy servers...but fine, that's not entirely their fault, so I'll let it slide. But the terrible lag, and the inclusion of only one mode (2-minute match) is just...well...stupid? Oh, and where the hell is the voice chat. Four PG-rated taunts can only get you so far.

I suppose there's a lot I left out...but that's all I'll say for now. In the end, I'm having a great time playing. I guess I'm just a little disappointed after the incredible hype and the year and a half delay. You'd at least think the online would be better.

What? What's wrong with Wario? He's one of my favorite new characters!

Really? I'm not all too fond of him. To be honest, I wasn't excited about his addition in the least even before the game was released...I don't much like his moves, and his Smash is a bit disappointing IMO.

But hey, that's just my oppinion. ^_^

Really? Because I've always found his Smash to be devastating, particularly 1 on 1. It's basically ridiculously fast, superpowerful, and unlike, say, Sonic or Pikachu, very easy to control. If Warioman sets his sights on you, you're pretty much gone.

Hey, I pretty much agree with Bacon, except that I'm dissapointed with Snake. His attacks are slow and hard to connect with, especially his smashes.

Also, like I thought they would, Final Smashes KILL any semblance of balance this game might have ever had. Characters with good smashes can win off of one ball with NO skill whatsoever, and characters without them end up spending the whole time trying to make sure that people who DO have good ones don't get the ball.

That's another thing that bugs me about the online mode: It's almost IMPOSSIBLE to get a match where you've turned off the smash balls. It just won't give you one.

Really though, I'm nitpicking here. This game is EXCELLENT on most fronts. I just wish that Nintendo had fealt the need to do that TINY little bit of polish that would have pushed this up to the "Favorite Game" title that Melee used to have before God of War and Disgaea.

Actually, it is their fault for once again underestimating the demand for online play. They ran into similar problems in Japan and didn't bother to change their approach when they brought it over here. In fact, they didn't fix much of anything when they brought it over here, even the Wii-bricking bug was still there at the US release. What WAS that last delay for?

To physically form actual copies of the game.

As a result of not doing so in the delay preceding it. So the question is what was THAT previous delay for? =P

I could see a week or two to print more copies, but a month is a bit excessive.

Maybe, I don't really know how hard it is to get videogames made. Do they make it themselves, or do they send it to some kind of "printer"? If that's the case, then it's probably a scheduling thing. Either way, I don't doubt that some of that time was spent taking the Nintendo online system in America from "pisspoort" to, uh... playable. But who's to say?

Anyway, as far as online goes, I've found that usually, for me at least, it runs fine. I have had cases, though, where a few matches in we'd have one player drop out and someone else come in, and suddenly the connection turns to crap. I'm guessing, based on what little I know of the system, that lag is largely based on the connection speeds of the individual players, as opposed to some kind of deal with Nintendo's servers.

Not to say that there isn't probably some way of optimizing things, but I honestly don't know much of the technicals of this sort of thing...
