Wish there was an Oratorio Tangram machine by me. My university still has the original Virtual On arcade machine and I can beat the game in about 5 minutes (single round matches) using the character that's the worst matchup for the final boss.
That's "Dr. BlkKnight" to all of you.

Actually, someone already posted the original Virtual On up above and I mentioned that I still play Oratorio Tangram in one of the arcades around here.

Where the heck do you live, that there are still arcades around?

In recent years I've only seen arcades in Hong Kong. Taiwan and Singapore have net cafes, which have completely replaced arcades.

NY and NJ have no neighborhood arcades anymore. Except little ones in Chinatown, I guess.

I live in Los Angeles. There are still arcades around here. Hell, there are still arcades across most of the US. I tend to frequent places like Dave and Busters more than the regular arcades since they tend to attract less kids, especially if you go later at night.

The arcade with Oratorio Tangram, though, is in Little Tokyo. They have a mall out there which has an arcade with all import games. It's the Japanese version, but it's not like you need to know Japanese to play the game.

You guys still have arcades? Those things died out in the 90's where I live. The last bastion of coin operated consoles was this tourist trap in a small town located an hour drive away from the capital. It was this huge greenhouse converted into a tropical "paradise" where you could by locally grown bananas during the winter. It came under new ownership about 10 years ago where the name of the place was changed and the arcade section was cleared out.

Oh right, I'm supposed to post screen shots of games. Uhm... How about... there!

Those were my two cents.

Imperium Galactica.

I'm sure if I looked I could find an arcade in your area. I'm surprised sometimes when I find arcades in areas, but there is usually something in most areas, unless you live out in the middle of Nowhere, Montana.

Never actually played this game, but I had some friends who were into it hard!

Maybe you will not have played it as well

If he knew Imperium Galactica, then he definitely knows this one.

You're welcome to look for arcades around my capital, but I can guaranty that you'll have a hard time finding one. They used to be spread around the downtown district and there was a popular one in one of the malls but it's completely dead now. I figured that consoles and emulators did a wonderful job at snuffing out the need for those things. The closest thing we have for those places are those bars that house slots machines.

Those were my two cents.

That rules out more than you'd think.

Looks like Master of Orion. I think for most people, if they've played any scifi strategy game on the PC, they've played Master of Orion or one of its sequels.

The next one is Joust. I was just playing that over at Titmouse a few weeks back. They have one of those retro arcade machines with all the built in games. Joust was about the only decent thing on there.

"Yarr, Tis no man, tis a remorseless eating machine, Yarr"

I refuse to give up!

I have played many freaking OBSCURE GAMES in my day. I don't remember them well since a lot of them were utter crap and via many years of therapy I have been able to forget about them and the trouble they caused. However, THIS game I remember. It was crap, but I remember it well and learned my lesson about renting games because of the image on the back of the case.

Eat THIS isukun!

Hint: The red boxes on either side of the screen are something I added since the game name was prominently displayed under them.
Console: One that uses controllers to interact with the image generated on the screen

Was Pit Fighter really that obscure? I remember it looking great for its day and it was everywhere in the DC area back in the day. Plus there were all the home versions, too. Genesis, SNES, PC, Gameboy, even the Lynx had a port. It beat MK to the whole digitized actors trend and I remember really liking the interacions between the crowd and the fighters. Of course, you come back and play it again as an adult and you find the gameplay was a steaming pile of poo. I almost passed up on playing the TMNT arcade game once to try out Pit Fighter. I'm glad I spent my quarter elsewhere.

The funny thing is, until I read the bit about covering up the name, I thoght it was supposed to have those red blocks. It acually looks better with them than the way the game actually looks.

It's called Dave and Buster's and if your'e lucky, sometimes you'll discover one in a couple obscure malls.

Okay isu-chan, here's another one for you.

Star Ocean Blue Sphere. I never played the game, but I did play Star Ocean 2 and watched the anime, so I remember the characters, plus I remember the ads and the articles about this game when it came out.

Or in the popular malls depending on where you look. I know there are two in the DC area and three out here in LA (plus a really crappy Jillians and an ESPN Zone).

Alright, time to hit up some new consoles!

I really loved this game, I wasn't sure if it was popular, but I didn't know many people who knew about it.

No more console or hint, you don't seem to need it.

But I will give you hint/console if requested...cause I'm a nice guy :D

Astal for the Saturn. I didn't really love the game, but the Saturn is still my favorite console. I'm so glad emulation of the system is good enough to make up for the fact that my CD drive died on my old saturn. I even picked up some USB saturn controllers so I could play some of my old games the way God intended. They're also great for Street Fighter.

In case he fails, here are couple of screens for you to pick your brains with.

Hint: Part of a series.

Played this one a good while ago. It took too long to develop it so by the time it came out, the graphics were considered inferior so it never caught on.

Hint: As you can tell, their biggest selling point was: Gore.

Not with Princess Crown. I'm a pretty big fan of the Vanilla Ware games.

The Kings Quest games are all pretty recognizable. That's VII, the one that tried way to hard to be a Disney movie. It was kind of unfortunate, VI was definitely the high point for that series.

Harvester came out when I was in my senior year of high school. I was still playing mostly PC games back then apart from the occasional fighter on the 3DO (still the best console version of SSF2T ever) and if my friends weren't around, I'd usually stick to the adventure or strategy games.

I don't know if I would consider them "fair game" since the PC platform has literaly thousands of games, many of which are made in regions I don't typically import from or which come from the indy market which I don't really pay close attention to, but other people have been posting them. I don't mind people posting PC games, but we may want to stick to actual professionally developed and released games. There are a lot of people out there who play around with coding and slap together some dinky action or puzzle games that look and play like shit just to say they made a game and I can't really be expected to know them all.

Loved this game. I missed the DOOM and Wolfenstein boat, so this FPS was probably the first to get me hooked, and I never looked back.

I never really got into Zero Tolerance, but I never really played it until I got into emulators. It did have some interesting effects compared to Wolfenstein, but coming out a year after Doom hit the PC, it was kind of too little, too late. It's too bad since the design aspects were better.
