I'm from that area of the world. Grew up drawing Doraemon.

For a while I drew "American" stuff, bought tons of comics to reference, etc. It helped me round out, but after having experience in both styles, I realized I prefer drawing manga style. Even so, my current style isn't pure manga. Look at my art and it's clear there are big American influences. The only things that look manga are the female characters active currently, but only because of their source material (and I've "softened" their manga look). Future female characters I have in store will actually look more like Filmation Studios style.
