This Stargate show is always...I mean ALWAYS on the Sci-Fi Channel.

I want to know if this show is really worth watching. Especially now since two of my favorite shows (Doctor Who and Flash Gordon) have finished their seasons, I have nothing to watch on Fridays anymore.

It's pretty cool. Some of the episodes were really good. It's one of the longest continuing Sci-Fi shows out there.

I actually thought the movie was pretty average so I avoided the TV series for ages. Once I gave it a proper try though, I did get into it very quickly. Richard Dean Anderson has such a dry delivery, he elevates it way above the norm for this type of show.

Obviously best if you can jump on board when they're re-showing Season 1 since - like any long-running series - it has built up quite a chunk of back-story.

Really, I found Macgyver to be a bit pointless in that show. His dry cynical ways become deathly boring and dull after the first few episodes. The novelty of him not finding any of that amazing stuff that amazing, not only wears off quickly, it also rubs off some of the shine from the rest- making it all a little more mundane.

And the pretty boy and girl in-glasses-scientists are as convincing as my left bum cheek doing Hamlet. lol!

The show wasn't all that bad- just a little repetitive because it'd been on too long, and not too imaginative in the settings etc.

If you're looking for a good show on SciFi, I highly recommend the new Battlestar Galactica series. You can watch seasons 1-3 on iTunes, and season 4 is coming out in March, I believe. ...It is nothing like the old show in the 70s--it is soooo much better. But every once in awhile, they make nods to the old show, just to say "hey, this is where we came from". It's cool.

Here's a trailer from the first season:

They just made a new DVD movie called Battlestar Galactica: Razor [en.wikipedia.org], which takes place before the TV series. According to Wiki: "Razor takes place during Apollo's first days as commander of Battlestar Pegasus (during the period originally covered in the second half of season 2) and uses flashbacks to show Admiral Cain's orders during and shortly after the Cylon holocaust, as well as events occurring on the final day of the first Cylon War." ...I haven't seen it yet, but it looks good.

Man, I LOVED the 70's 80's version :)
I STILL want one of those cool flight jackets as well as some original Cyclon armour. ^___^

Great outfits!

What I like about the new Battlestar Galactica series is that they made it into something that could quite possibly happen in the near future. The idea that we create a race of machines so advanced that they rebel against us; the battle tactics (for example, they use real bullets--not lasers or pulse guns like all other sci fi shows)--even the warp drive mechanics they use. It's all something that could be very tangible. It almost feels like a documentary, rather than a sci-fi series--and I think that's what they were shooting for.

I've seen bits and pieces of the new series... But no jackets T_T
I'm superficial like that. :)

Eh, I may give the new series a go at one stage- get the whole lot on DVD and watch the episodes while I draw. That's usually the best way.

BSG is definitely the superior show I would even say that Babylon 5 is a better show than Stargate SG-1 and Dr. Who definitely better. The acting may not be the best the writing is not the best. The special effects are pretty cool sometimes. It's a decent show and really it's a lot better than some of the Star Trek stuff that's been coming out. It's not that bad and it does have some really great moments.

BSG does what all good sci-fi do it makes its concepts relateable.

One cool episode is where a bunch of species who normally hate each other allied themselves to fight the evil threats of the Go'uld (Or however you spell their names) and they're loosing soldiers against an assassin and they blame each other. It was not the most original but it was really good. Their seasons normally had really strong finales with epic fights and stuff(I'm so literate). Also Stargate Atlantis is not too bad especially the actor who plays Rodney. Though I find the generic human alien badass with all the weapons a little cliche. The first season of that series was really good especially the end.

Cool Cool. Thanks for the responses.

I think I'll check out Stargate and also BSG. They both sound good. Besides you can't go wrong with Lucy Lawless. ;)

I don't know about the series, but I watched the movie for the first time last night and I thought the movie was pretty good atleast. Aside from that fact that over half the dialogue was in some made up language. :X

Battle Star Glactica? Or Stargate?

That's one thing I don't know about the new series of Battlestar; does it actually have Battlestars? I mean, that's what it's named for afterall... The gigantic space-battleship/fighter-carriers...

I really don't know much about the new series.

If you're a fan of Stargate or Dr. Who, you might wanna check out Timegate [timegatecon.org].
