Playable demo came out yesterday for 360 and PS3.

Any game where you can throw a Tie fighter at a guy, pick him back up, empale him with your saber, slam him into the ground, then throw him off a ledge 20 something stories high is lovely and beautiful.

If you haven't downloaded it, do so now. If you have, what do you think?

So, apparently I'm the only person on the face of the planet who doesn't like the game?

The force grip is the most worthless thing I've ever seen, because you can't move while doing it, which means you can't stand behind something or try to dodge while using it, so you just stand there getting shot in the face while you fiddle around trying to line it up properly. And when you finally do, it veers off to the side and hits some boxes instead of your opponents because the targeting system is shite.

I really can't see what's so great about it.

Just played it... feels sluggish. It's very difficult to use the force grip efficiently, for pretty much the reasons CT mentioned. The only decent use for it I could find was to stand far, far away and just start throwing things at random. It was very difficult to do any specific actions with it without just standing there and getting owned by 20 guys while you aim it; it's better just to cause a lot of nonspecific mayhem and hope someone you want to die does.

Maybe later in the game it becomes more intuitive, or you get more to do with it, but if so, they really should have put that in the demo.

I'll agree partially with this one. I think they could've easily taken a page from Psi Ops and let you move with controlling stuff. That being said, the damage you take from getting shot is usually replenished with interest from the enemies you take out, and as far as lining up a shot, I never have. I've found that simply throwing a object in the desired direction usually sends it toward an enemy automatically.

So I've just started playing the full game, hoping it would better than the demo. I think I have some sort of crushing disappointment fetish or something. Seriously, I had extremely low expectations, and it was even worse. My brother is even returning it, and he was looking forward to it.

God where do I begin? First, the game cheats. Your guy flinches like a girl when hit, so you often get smacked around and can't react in any way, even better, because the enemies don't. This also means that you can't interrupt an enemies combo, but guess what they can do to you? Second, Jedi get these force shield things, which you don't get at all, and they use them while attacking or using other force powers, which makes them impossible to defeat sometimes. Oh, and you know all that cool stuff you can do? Forget it, because by the time you learn how to do any of it, then trying to will just get you murdered.

The force grip hasn't improved at all. Priceman said to fling it in the right general direction, but I can't because he has his own ideas about what the threat is. It's not that rocket launching robot over there, nope, it's that box. IT'S THE EMPEROR IN DISGUISE. Wait, I just realised the force grip did come in handy once. I was trying to kill a storm trooper with a thing, and like usual it went the opposite direction that I wanted it to, and it revealed a secret when it hit the wall right next to me.

It's the first game that's frustrated me enough to stop playing. I take this kind of thing as a challenge, you see.

So I take it that it's just a poorly-designed game, mechanics-wise... and it's *not* because you are a poor gamer in general and is griping about a game which is too difficult for your hands and eyes?

I'm asking without sarcasm because I don't know what type of gamer you are.

It's probably a bit of both, really.

A thing I forgot is that you upgrade your skills with 'talent spheres', which you earn by levelling up, collecting secrets or completing bonus objectives. That's not bad by itself, but it costs you a sphere to undo your selections. Seriously, so if you make a mistake, tough shit, you either keep it or you waste a sphere reversing it.

Did anyone test play this? It's hard to imagine they did.

Edit: I forgot to mention that the auto targeting is shit.

The targeting is shit. There's no way to switch which enemy you're focusing on. And the fact he focuses on objects as well means he often seems to consider bits of debris or boxes as a greater threat than the missile launching deathbots.

Beat the game (on easy) the other day, because my roommate bought it.

I dunno... the game "works" on a fundamental level. It's not unbeatable, just... annoying. Largely it seems that your force powers really only work for very specific tasks, and for those specific tasks they work quite well. But the game would be too easy, so "fake" difficulty is thrown in to nullify them. Once you get the hang of your force lightning, you start running into annoying enemies who are resistant to it. You finally get used to using the force grip to throw people around without getting owned by a launcher, and enemies who you can't force grip show up.

Going back to the thing about flinching Custard Trout mentioned: it is very annoying. A good example is when you get hit with a rocket launcher. Getting hit by a rocket stuns Starkiller for a good second, at least, which is just enough time for them to load a second rocket and knock your ass back down.

Another problem is that the platforming sucks. It's not very clear which parts of certain levels are surfaces to stand on, and which ones are just decoration. It's also annoying to see Starkiller able to, canonically, fall several dozen stories and land on his feet without so much as a pause, but if you fall just a few feet down into an area that's not part of the "map", you're just dead. He's also just hard to aim when he's jumping around. There was one sequence in the junk planet I had to go through multiple times largely because the platforms were awkwardly placed and hard to aim at.

All in all the biggest problem with this game seems to be wasted potential. It's not terrible; not really. But it could have been so much better. The force grip works well enough, but the shoddy auto-locking and inability to move while using it makes it impractical. The controls wouldn't be bad if the level design wasn't so counterintuitive to them. The Jedi battles would be quite interesting if it wasn't just a case of waiting for them to stop blocking and hitting them with force lightning. And the much-hyped Star Destroyer force-pull, which should have been the highlight of the game, ends up being just an annoying, long, dull, and easy sequence.

Playing through the first level as Darth Vader is easily the most fun part of the game. Things are a lot more slow-paced, making the force powers less of a chore to employ. The enemies drop like flies, instead of taking forever to kill despite having a lightsaber. If the entire game had played like that, I would have been perfectly happy. Sure, some more would have had to have been done to up the challenge, but there's still a lot more potential in that play style than Starkiller's spastic, unintuitive style of play.

I was playing on normal, so the fake difficulty was a bit more obvious.

That's another another thing, the enemies don't get smarter on higher difficulties, they just get stronger. On one part I was hiding behind a barrier and just force pushed them off one by one until they were all dead. It's like they were queueing up.

They need to make Star Wars: Battlefront 3.

They were actually doing good there for awhile.

So, basically... the consensus is that this game has good ideas and some innovative game engine properties, but whoever built the game just fail at basic game design theory.

Must be George's inbred cousins.

That's what they're saying, I don't see anything innovative about it. What's the point in having destructible environments? They serve no purpose but to distract you from how terrible the game really is.

Although I do admit the way enemies try to grab the edges of platforms or pull each other up is quite cool. I remember one time when I used force grip on a storm trooper, and he had another one holding on to his leg.

"Unleashed" is a term referring to releasing something. Like unleashing a dog, you remove its restraints and let it go to attack someone. It doesn't matter who used it first, just that the apprentice has no qualms about unleashing it on his enemies.

Still, the game wasn't very good. I found most of the gameplay pretty boring.

If I were to buy this game, my last choice would to buy it on the Wii. I'll never buy another freaking game on the freaking Wii when I can get the same game on the PS2 for $20 cheaper.

And how many of you played the Wii version?

I played it on the Wii version and honestly by the sounds the controls on the Wii were better done. But then again I could move things around while force gripping just by moving my hand a little and when I flicked using the control stick and let go it went exactly where I wanted it.

I could smash people into the ground just by swinging the nunchuck down a little, the light saber I only need to swing the wii-mote a little, I mostly just used my wrist not my whole arm and it imitated my slashes pretty well. I had very little trouble with this game and dare I say... fun. Last I heard from a friend the PS3 version doesn't have the jedi temple stuff, which had some very interesting fights. Also the attack sequences for special moves were pretty simple, I mean explosion for example was just C for force lightning and then push the nunchuck forward which is force push and voila!

The only fights that really pissed me off was Darth Vader and the emperor because I'd line up the last part of those sequence things and push the controller forward and it wouldn't work some of the time, only fights I had an issue with.

That being said the platform aspect was a little annoying, by the sounds of it they really borked the normal controllers. The Wii version was actually rather fun.

Whoot! We just hit fifty comics!

I heard that the best way to reach "I win" level is to max out your force lightning power until you'll be capable of supplying a small power plant.

And by small I mean this:

I never touched the game. Somebody just told me that the lightning power was an overkill in a can.
Those were my two cents.

Well you need force Holocrons for that too, no point being able to shoot super powerful lightning if you don't have the reserves to keep it up, I found myself using the explosion skill a lot, send enemies flying and lightning goes everywhere. Fun stuff.

Obviously upgrading force lightning helps the opening of explosion, since you do that first.

Lightning worked great on droids, obviously people like Vader you had to catch off guard to get them with it for any real damage.

It reminds me of a sci-fi God of War, playing-wise. Over the top moves and little pauses when he's about to kill something in a big way.
