Well I just heard the new. One of the few print comic series I've been following...KotOR and Legacy have both been canceled and told to end the series with issue 50 of their respective series in July.
I have mixed feelings about this. Legacy and KotOR were both flawed gems saddled of course with the usual hand cuffs of Star Wars cannon that is both a blessing and bane to the series. I thougth KotOR managed to do a little more with it plot wise but no doubt Legacy had the stronger charaters.
From what I can tell both series were canceled mainly on the ground for making way for a new original series Knight Errant and a series Empire of Blood tied into the new MMO. While I can certainly understand canceling KotOR for Empire of Blood as you want to start moving the video game's face base towards this new product and direction and I can't complain too much about it I'm sad to see Legacy go. While I did feel Legacy was starting to feel a little played out I'd have really liked to see a new Legacy Era comic with some new characters rather then seeing all the focus put back on the Old Republic with Knight Errant also being set way in the SW's temporally fozen past. That pretty much locks all the current series down with Knight Errant and Empire of Blood tied to the Old Republic series and Dark Times and Rebellion tied to the original movies.
Legacy broke a lot of Star Wars rules and I think for the better most of the time and with it taking place at the furthest established point in the time line it could actually throw you a few surprises now and then. I was a big fan of the many ideas put forht such as the One Sith and the Imperial Knights, Jedi and just people free to fall on their asses once in a while rather then being space paladines as we've seen most often. I'm not going to trash Knight Errant before I see it, it has some tallented people attached to it from what I've heard and I hope it will be even better then KoTOR or Legacy but as it comes as the expense of those two comics I can't help but be a little unhappy about it.
Star Wars has been in a strange place lately with the awful Clone Wars TV show on one end and the flawed Gem Force Unleashed on the other. Boucing around trying to fill in ever nook a cranny of its timeline until it is oozing with events to the point of rediculous improbability except for Legacy whic has been able to stand on its own a far distant book end to the seirse able to swim free on its own while the rest of franchise flops around like a fish in the mub hoping to land someplace good. I for one have been quietly hoping the Lucas Arts would finally start putting out some media to support Legacy such as a Legacy Era game to take advantage of a fresh source that hasn't been drawn from over and over like the very saturated Rebellion era has been. A storyline where we don't know if the bad guy will live or die, where we haven't skipped to the end yet but now it looks like Legacy like great Jedi Knights will simply fade away as it comes to the end.
