The concept phase comes before production. Look, I'm not trying to say Shrek was stolen from Monsters, Inc. I'm just saying that we can't use production dates to prove or disprove it. A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, and Monster's Inc existed as a pool of ideas and a tentative plan as early as Toy Story... long before they began production.

So, the only official word Lassiter and few close friends pounded out 5 movie ideas over coffee. And of course we need to take their word for it. :/

Is it really that absurd? Just saying it's pretty convenient that they explain it now like that. And there is not other documentation to support the claim.
