I like to draw, I like to tell stories, and comics seemed to be a perfect balance. Besides, one day I hope to make a living off them.
You are 12? Good time to start. I started when I was 10. The earlier the better, more time to discover a style that works for you and stories to fit it. ^_^

My story is quite boring. When I was 8, I bought my first Flash comic. I can't run very fast. Never could. Never will. So I decided since I can't become the Flash. I'll become the artist who draws the Flash.
The comic I do here at Drunk Duck, I started doing when I was around 15. Way back in the early 1990s. I think it's actually a bit older than you. (God I feel old now. Thanks. Ugh).
Anyways, I stuck with it year after year after year. I've done it on boards that were too big to copy, let alone print. I've done it as a college newspaper strip, a collected edition, an actual newspaper strip, a self-published comic book, a web comic, my main character in the City of Heroes MMORPG, and again as a web comic.
I was at a colleague's house a few months back. And I ran into a friend who I haven't seen since 1998. He's doing great. Has some work with Tokyo Pop and some other stuff. Did a book for Image. And he was pretty surprised to see me still around, still drawing. He said something kind of funny, but kind of serious ... "If you just stick around long enough, you sort of end up in the business because you're the last one standing."
So yeah ... that's how I got my start. By drawing. And not stopping.

By the way, have you read the Ray Bradbury book, Something Wicked This Way Comes? It's one of my all-time favorites.

Something Wicked this Way Comes...(I love the Bradbury novel and the movie that spawned is one if Disney's spookiest if I do say so myself.) But, I feel I would be amiss if I didn't point out to a twelve year old that the phrase came from Shakespeare's Macbeth (Creepy Creepy Witches say it.)
Anyway. I'm Lynn. My husband Ethan and I make comics together. We're really new to the game, January of this year. Ethan had been into comics since about your age...I didn't read my first comic 'till High School. (Ethan made me, it was Elfquest.) From there, I couldn't get enough.
After we decided we weren't happy with the careers we had chosen. (YAY for useless college degrees.)
I quit my job (Teaching) to become a full-time writer and we started producing some comics. Right now we have one real single panel that we love and one cheesy comic strip that I started to fill time when I have writer's block...But, we are working on a slew of stuff. (Ethan has a degree in film and what makes a better storyboard than a great comic?) So, our goals are publication, movie options (when we get to that point) and more and more comics. Ethan's starting to get some illustration and graphic "gigs" which is nice and I am truly almost finished with several projects. (Really I am.)
So, that's our game.
Good luck to you...With such a head start, they'll be no stoppin' you!

I love the Bradbury novel
The title of that book is a reference to macbeth. "Something wicked this way comes" is a line from the play. People should associate the line with macbeth, not the bradbury novel.
Anyway, I grew up in urban america with hip hop and street violence. Comics were cool as a kid but once punisher got dead I gave up. When I was in highschool someone made me read a neil gaiman book and I was like WOAH!!!
Best thing I ever read.
Now its what i want to be.

When I first met my best friend Charles in 5th grade it didn't take long before we realized we both loved to draw, and we were each pretty good at what we did. Eventually we had an idea for a full-blown cartoon we would make. The whole plot was pretty unique, and still would be if some OTHER cartoons hadn't come in and taken our ideas.
Anyway, it started our cartoon alter-egos, Jason (mine, Josh), and Chip (Charles'). The characters designs were COMPLETELY different and their personalities nothing like they are in my current comic. Still, I relate them to be the same character since they are both based off of us.
Eventually in 7th grade I started a comic strip starring Jason. It wasn't very good but looking back it had a few good jokes scattered here and there. Charles started making his own comic with Chip (completely different than the one we were working on) and some other characters he made up. Eventually I also met a girl named Mallory who has also become a really good friend over the years. I felt it appropriate to give her her own comic doppelganger.
When I was in an animation class last year I made some animations having Jason, Chip, and Mallory (she didn't want a different name) in gruesome deaths, with the last one being about them in a dungeon with some old dude who is the Doom Guy, an FPS sequence, and demons and Mallory getting possessed by the devil. It's getting entered into a national contest next year (maybe).
Then I came across DrunkDuck. I liked the place so I decided to make my own comic, featured my time-tested characters. They had undergone another total redesign (first being during my animation class) to show how we looked currently more accurately. And then I wrote this reply. Woo.

By the pricking of my thumbs! I did not think a 12 year old would have read anything by Shakespeare. But there is a chance he may have read the Bradbury novel since it's not that complex a piece.

And of course, "By the Pricking of my Thumbs" is an Agatha Christie novel starring Tommy and Tuppence (two of my favorite characters), but that's all besides the point and WAY off topic.
As for me...
I was spending an hour a week as a stand-in secretary for my university's Biology department. Bored to death, I took up the hobby of mimicking the character drawings from Detective Conan. I was getting okay at it. In addition to that, my roommates and I watch a lot of anime and can pick out "us" characters in most series. I always thought we'd make interesting anime characters, so I drew some along with various traits and eventually got carried away with complex pasts and relationships. So, one day, I picked up a "How to Draw Manga" book (actually, not so great...) and decided to try a detectiv-ish, character driven story starring fantastical versions of my roommates. The book influenced my early pages but eventually, I just tossed it aside and ended up with my own style.
I'm a writer by heart and a biologist by training. So, this is just another one of my quirky whims/hobbies. I pick up all sorts of hobbies, sculpture, singing, acting, etc. I probably won't attempt comicking again (or if I do, it will be one panel FarSide-like stuff -- which is what I dabbled in before, and I am much better at drawing animals and plants).
Oh, I also took a class on comics at Governors Honors Academy when I was in high school... I had nearly forgotten that. I was a terrible artist then too, but my instructor liked my comics. At least the concepts were clever. ;)

American007 began actually as a completely random and humorous sprite comic featuring random VG characters, instead of the original characters (sans Cthulhu, Nack, Shadow, Amy, and Old Eggman) that are in the comic currently. When I first started, I made it simply for me and a bunch of my friends at some forum. Actually, back then, I had a team of people working on the comic with me, one of them designing what was gonna be a website (which sadly never came to fruition, and was later hacked by some Mexican user named Agressor).
Anyway, I went out and promoted the hell out of the comic, until I ran into a forum called "Pixel Pagoda." I showcased the comic there, and quite frankly they hated it. Lots of negative reviews. Also, I myself was beginning to get bored with the comic, so taking their advice, I scrapped the comic and made on final episode as a transition from those comics to the American007 you know today. Now I refer to those 50+ past comics as the "Fantasy Arc."
The characters in the Fantasy Arc were much like the cast in present day A007. There was Amy Rose (12 year old version, not mature version), Sub-Zero, Yoshimitsu, Sakura, Mewtwo, Bowser and Blackheart. They were like their present day counterparts, but more stupid and completely out of character. Nevertheless, it taught me many of the methods and tricks I use for American007 today, and i'm thankful for that.
So when tl;dr'ed, It was a crappy sprite comic which served as a learning tool, and was scrapped for the better version known as the American007 today.
To see the Fantasy Arc episodes, they're at my website located here.

A kid, read a book? Nah, it was probably just parodied on Spongebob.
Anyway, I decided I wanted to make a comic in seventh grade, two years ago, after reading Penny Arcade and other comics. I wanted to mimic their success, and as such, made a horrible gaming comic. Thankfully, none of it was published- I only showed it to a few close friends. After my school mistook me for some sort of Columbine-style killer (some comics had Penny Arcade-style violence in them), I wasn't allowed to draw the comics anymore, and I stopped drawing for a good two years.
Present Day: I had been meaning to restart my comic for a while- but I was lazy. But I eventually got around to starting it as a way to impress my (now ex-girl)friend. I decided not to make it a gaming comic, this time- I figured I should suck ass on my own. :)
It's a comic!

People always tell me I'm funny. I draw a lot of goofy shit and post it on the internet, and I started combining funny stuff with bad artwork. Now I have a popular web comic.
I made sprite comics for awhile around 01-02 , then I did some other comics over the years of 02-03-04 , and then I decided to make a great comic that was good stuff.
Now I make penis.

I used to make up stories through playing with hand made toys and exploring the neighborhood when I was a kid. Was sad that I wasn't able to share the stories. Tried to write em down in middle school and high school, but wasn't that good at it so I went into comics in college.

As if it wasn't obvious from my avatar, my inspiration to draw comics came from Pokemon. Pokemon were the first thing I could draw with any sort of flair or talent, so my love of art was born from that. That was when I was around 12.
My desire to make comics came from Pokemon, too, a feeling I recently re-kindled by reading some old graphic novels by Toshihiro Ono. It was the first manga I had ever read and it was awesome. Ono had basically taken several episodes in the anime and made them leagues more awesome (One look at his Gyrados images can tell you that much). He did things like let Ash catch a Fearow, change Misty's hair-style and clothes, and not even mention Tracey. He also emphasized things like being out of money or getting lazy with certain habits which are things the anime never bothered to cover.
I owe pokemon a lot for spurring me into drawing comics, which is why I just can't bring myself to put the series away.
My comicking went into high gear with the development of the characters "Hiccup and Hyucker", a pair of guys who had all sorts of looney adventures. After those two, I truly got into Manga and began to draw in that style. Over time, I've adapted to whatever feels most comfortable to me.
