Dune (12 or more parts i think)
The whole thing. Just read it. it's good.
Ofcourse in theory you should start with the pre-info thing herbert's son wrote, but i just went ahead and read part 1,2.3, then the houses, then the pre thing.
Currently his son is working on the last bit (not finished yet)
Definitely a great book though.

The Sovereign stone trilogy. (3 parts)
Very dark and mystic, involves necromancy and void magic.

The Shadow wars trilogy (3 parts)
Somewhat in the direction of the sovereign stone, but with a bit more a flavour of the lord of the rings mixed into it.

Damia (3 parts)
By anne weiss (spelling?)
Sci fi, been a while since i did, but it's a nice read.
Its about a girl with strong mental powers, (not the devil's daughter as the title might imply)

--

On a side note, i read the lord of the ring (the full 1800 or so pages), it was ok... but the above ones were more interesting to read.
That's my opinion anyway. i just don't see the whole "hype". I guess i was just expecting more out of it.
The movie was pretty decent though. /shrug

It depends on what genre you prefer really.
I rather read fantasy and sci fi hence the above.

If you dont really have the attention span for hardbook reading, you can always grab some anime movies.
Hellsing, berserk, ah my goddess, evangelion are some very good ones.

Manga doesn't count. And Eva sucks. If manga counted well I read all of Zombie Powder yesterday. I got tons of manga(seriously like almost 200) but I want a book! And I don't like sci-fi with the exception of anything by Orson Scott Card. That man speaks to my soul! But I think I wanna get back into thriller/horror. I never finished all the Stephen King titles, and I've been wanting to get into some Lovecraft.

My favorite books are Paul Kidd's Greyhawk trilogy: "White Plume Mountain," "Descent Into the Depths of the Earth", and "Queen of the Demonweb Pits". Colorful character dynamics, killer story, and just plain fun. I'm gonna get killed for saying this, but...these three books kicked R.A. Salvatore's arse.

bbr, when you say "Shadow Wars" trilogy, are you referring to the Chris Claremont trilogy that was the sequel to Willow? I read that awhile back and thought it was interesting. ....But they didn't have to kill off Madmartigan, dammit. That guy rocked.

YOU SPEAK ILL OF SALVATORE! Meh. I couldn't even finish the last of the Hunter's Blades trilogy and I probably won't read the Orc King. Honestly, it should of ended a long time ago, and at this ppoint, I'm honestly completely dissinterested in Drizzt, and I'm an OLD fan of Salvatore. I really wish Drizzt would die, there's no where else to take his character.

You could try stephen king's black tower.
I never got around finishing it, as neither the library or the local bookstore had all the parts. But it certainly is worth checking in to.

Not so much horror, more thriller.

Hmm i think so. let me check /checks book case
Written by: chris claremont & george lucas.
The third book is titled Shadow Star. (another is moon, another is dawn)
Thorn drumheller and Elora danan are 2 of the main characters.

Another interesting book is "Dusk" by Tim lebbon.
It's somewhat in the trend of the sovereign stone.

Amber and ashes i also have lying here.

Don't know it till you try it.
While starwars is hyped up crap, the book isn't written "just" by lucas.

If a man were hungry, would he prefer an empty bowl, or half a bowl of food?

I think he just wanted to tack his name onto it, since he had a part in the Willow movie. Chris Claremont clearly wrote it; you can tell from the writing style.

Ooooh, OOOH! ...This brings up a big point that I keep trying to tell my co-worker....does anyone really know what shit tastes like?!? I mean, really. We could be sitting on the tastiest stuff, and no one knows it. It could taste like chocolate. It could be the food source to end world starvation. But everyone's afraid to eat it! Just because it comes out of our ass, and someone a long time ago deemed it as "waste"....doesn't mean it is. Right? Right?!?

Someone agree with me here. :)

David Icke? Isn't that the fellow who believes that the royal family of England are lizard-people? XD Tin-foil-hat-wearers of the world, unite!

I'll recommend George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books (the series start with A Game of Thrones) to anyone who wants to read epic-style fantasy with a lot of unexpected twists, gritty characters and interesting plotlines. ASoIoF eats plot-cliches for breakfast.

In the same vein, though not quite as good as the above (in my opinion) is Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen novels. I've only read five of them - there are six out, I believe? - but he has a huge cast, interesting characters and an engaging, sprawling plot. Like I said, not as good as GRRM's stuff, but it's good enough.
The Continued Misadventures of Bonebird - a poor bird's quest for the ever-elusive and delicious apples.

If this was the spam thing i'd give you a nasty link right here, those 2 girls make it look like it were chocolate..
fyi, chimpansees eat their own dung (aside throw it at people) as it stil contains a lot of nutrients.
Indians also drink their own urine, (we had 1 in the office and he stunk so bad) as its said to have healing powers...

However..... enough on that subject. If it tasted like chocolate, it wouldn't smell like shit.

The 3-4 houses didn't really directly add anything to the story, but they were an interesting read none the less.
The prequel bits ( machine crusade etc) were definitely worth reading however, as it detailed the origin of the "great enemy" that will be depicted in the books currently being written, as well as leto's vision to a degree.
It was also interesting to see the origins of the space guild, and sisterhood.
Plus the origins of the atreides - harkonnen feud. Though the atreides issue was sort of added as an afterthought it seemed.

Definitely recommended if you can find them in a library near you.

But chocolate is so yummy!

And so, we have come full circle in this little story. And now children, let us all go to beddy-bye. :sleepy:

P.S. Ozone, I see on your "Pinky TA Sexy War" comic that you have a picture link on there where a guy is screaming "My poop tastes like candy!" ....Coincidence? lol!

What the...???? Those dran kids buying my PW ad space!
Whatever will they think up next? Scamps :)

But aside from the alleged chocolate producing nether regions, or even whether there is any truth to that age old poem "Milk, milk, lemonade, round the back chocolate's made", there's the subject of book recommendation.
-I'm pretty sure that poem is a lie BTW-

I'm going to recommend The High House, by James Stoddard, and its sequel, The False House. They're not the best written books ever, but the concept of adventures inside a massively dimensional sprawling Victorian mansion is pretty interesting... There are a lot of nods to the authors that inspire him, and if you know the references it gets pretty tiresome (all late 19thC authors), but the story itself is pretty cool.

And no coprophagia! ^_^

No mention of Catch 22? The Martian Chronicles? Of Mice & Men? 1984? The Great Gatsby? Animal Farm even? I could give you list after list of great books to go read.

I mean really, you should read ALL those. Their all brilliant in various ways. Personally though, I prefer "less significant" fiction. Give me a paint-by-numbers Tom Clancy novel. You could put Stephen King or Chuck Pahalinuk into the same category. Similar themes and writing styles in every book. Each one more a masterpiece than the last one. I like reading old pulp stuff by guys like Mickey Spillane. I love that sort of stuff more than I do what some call clasics. Just how I feel.

Whose to say that Mike Hammers and Doc Savages adventures aren't as classic as Hucklberry Finn and Tom Sawyer?

I think like your's, the list is more about cool and fun books, rather than important ones. :)

I think EE Doc Smith's Skylark series of early 30's American Pulp SciFi are brilliantly cool reads ^^
