I want to create a simple, single panel stick figure comic with text in dialogue bubbles. I tried drawing them out on art paper and scanning them into my computer but was not really impressed with how they ended up looking. Is there a (hopefully freeware)computer program that is good for doing this sort of thing?
Thank you very much for any advice!

If you're not using a tablet, there's tons of great programs out there.
GIMP, paint.NET (windows only), and possibly InkScape come to mind....
You can get some good free comic fonts at Blambot.com, as well as vector elements like word balloons... all free for non-commercial and/or small guy stuff.
That ought to get you going.

Your computer should already have 'MSpaint', primitive but gets the job done.
If you want to get more technical:

Also remember to look at the Text and Speech Bubbles sticky in this forum. There's some detailed information for doing what you need to do, and there's also several DD tutorials dedicated to creating speech bubbles and using text.
