So I recently went around adding the authors of all my recommended comics to my friends.
But, what do you author folks think when us fans add you? Is it slightly annoying, does it make you feel loved, what?
Just thought I would ask.

Yes I know that this game is retarded. It's also fun for some retarded reason.
This one is less retarded, but it's mostly just fun for the trolling

I love it when people do that. It actually makes me think people like my comic (for once).
Updates Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday's (depends).

Yup - "befriending" people is one of the things I really haven't paid much attention to so far. But, when other people have taken the trouble to befriend me, I've always reciprocated.
I take the view that the enemy of my enemy might be my friend, but the friend of my comic is an even better one! (So befriend me. I like that stuff!)

I'm all for naked, group hugs... but I'll settle for being befriended. Seems like a compliment to me. And I reciprocate as well.

I always befriend people back. It's nice to be thought of as a "friend" whether it's for my comic or for my winning personality. ;)

it was rather annoying. you'd never realize how glad you'd be without it until you actually delete your comic:P

Alot of ppl I'm not sure why they befriend me. Once I even PQ'ed someone with a "Hi what's up?" but never got a reply.
That's why when I befriend someone, and I think they prolly dunno why, I send them a short PQ telling them why I just did that.

Well, if someone I haven't talked to Friends me, and I PQ him/her with "Hi what's up?", and then I don't get an answer... then I wouldn't reciprocate.
Cuz you do hear those stories about ppl who just Friends strangers for no reason, or ulterior reasons.

I like it and I befriend people out of the blue myself...but I always respond to PQs. That's just being polite, which jibes with the whole "friend" concept IMO. :)

I think it's "fan"tastic! (I'm sleepy and silly, forgive me.) I rarely go searching for readers, (I know I should.) But, I'm busy tryin' to build sites and write. So, I personally love it when someone "Friends" me.

A lot of my fans send me requests to play Poke'mon with them. I don't have the DS or the Wii, so I feel bad not being able to do so with them. Course I have spoken with people on drunk duck from my xbox account.

A couple of people I friend when I love their comic that much, or if we're doing a project together. I love being friended by absolute strangers, I never really care about the reason why.

Hi. My name is Steve. I draw a comic about a super hero who's primary power is Super-Friendliness. His primary goal is to befriend the entire world. One person at a time. He's assembled a team of heroes, and dubbed them The Mighty Befrienders. Their headquarters is the Hall of Friendship. Their team vehicle is the Welcome Wagon.
I'm not only ok with people "befriending" me, it's kind of part of my comic's gimmick! At the two cons I attended this year I was giving out free trading cards and posters of my comic, and telling people that if they visited Superchum on the web, they could become friends with him too!
So ... uh ... yeah. Friends are kind of the main idea of my comic.
:)

It annoys me when they I've never seen the person. If someone who is a "fan" adds me, I don't add back until I see an actual comment.

It gets really weird when you don't have a comic but people keep adding you to their friends.

I love it when people friend me! it's fun! sometimes I friend people in in a way that may SEEEEM random, but if you post in the forums and say something I find witty, I'll probably friend you because of it. ;D
it's not a big deal or anything to me though...

Well, I don't mind at all, but it takes me a little longer to "befriend" people. I like to talk a bit with them first and such, be it here in the forums (but I've been a bit distant lately, so that doesn't happen much) or by commenting back and forth.
Generally I just have to figure out if I like you, and I like most people, so I've stealth-friended a few people myself.

For a while I didnt understand it... I thought it was like the myspace friend system where if you agree to let someone be your friend, then you automatically become theirs too.
So, for a while I was a real dick.

Eh to me if someone takes the time to add me then of course I'll add 'em. And I'll usually take the time to leave a comment and check out their comic as well. Don't know why, it's just how I am for some reason.

I add people as friends if they comment on my comic or if I comment on theirs. I always add people that add me first. Sometimes I add people if I like their posts on the forums, but the other two methods are much more common for me.

So... what does being somebody's friend on this website entitle you? Can we like, hang out at the pub and get drunk together? Rag on each other's moms then get into a fist fight only to laugh it off and drink some more? Can we eat all the pizza in our friend's fridge and then clog up the toilet with a huge, steaming log but never flush?
Because that's what real friends do.

Anyone who friends me, I return the favor, but I consider at least semi-regular comments on my work the true measure of regard; well, that, and any instance of someone faving my strip.
It is also impressive when you visit their bio page and discover that they have placed you on their recommends list, particularly if they don't have many other strips or comics listed.
But still, faving and occasionally commenting on your work is more meaningful to me than being placed on someone's friends list or even on their recommends list, and the latter particularly if you are only one out of a hundred or so on that list.

I only friend people in return if they either:
-have been in an interesting discussion with me on the forums.
-have chatted to me through PQs.
-are a regular commentor on my comic.
or
-I know them from another site.
I think some people just try to collect friends, like so they can have the '100 friends!' icon or have a friends list with lots of people on. I prefer people I put on my friends list to be people I've had some kind of interaction with, or at least people who show more interest in me than just my icon....Which I need to change. I'm bored of staring Rocket now...
