I was browsing The Game Creator Forums when I came across a post about this. I guess this is one of the consequences of having consoles that can connect to the Internet and such. I don't play on that network, but I'm pretty sure XBLive has also been hacked. Just no one's said anything about it. Oh... here are the links posted on that forum so you don't have to go there. :)

I think I might've heard about this on OCRemix, too. Something about the guy who helped crack into the iPhone helped document his time into cracking the Playstation 3 or something. Or maybe this is something different.

Amazing what people can do these days. I'm no technical savvy player myself, but the mind is a curious flower awaiting to bloom.

I'm just glad I redeemed my Portal 2 PC code before the system went down. I have a friend who's still waiting to play the game because you must activate your PS3 version of Portal 2 before it lets you redeem your free PC Portal 2.

I don't play online much, so this doesn't bother me... yet. But when I get back into LittleBigPlanet 2, this better be resolved.

No, it's just Sony. As to why:

If you didn't know, Sony initially released the PS3 promising support for other OS like Linux. This feature ended up selling it for a lot of people who wanted to use the PS3 as a computer. A while back, however, the released an update to the firmware that gave people the option to update and lose Other OS or drop other OS and lose online functionality and the ability to play future games. Naturally, the sort of people who run Linux on PS3 weren't happy about this.

A hacker by the name of GeoHot (previously famous for cracking the iPhone) set out to hack in and reestablish other OS as well as homebrew. He did so, releasing the steps online as well as Sony's root key. Sony, not pleased with this, filed a lawsuit against GeoHot. To make matters worse, they also tried to obtain the IP addresses of everyone who had donated money to GeoHot's cause. This set off the internet hate machine.

Anonymous and other online groups have been hacking in to Sony servers to fight against, as they say, Sony's consumer rights violations. Although now there is also a dispute as to whether or not it is still anonymous hacking Sony servers, seeing as how the case against GeoHot was settled outside of court (they agreed not to pursue him so long as he left Sony products alone.)

I honestly don't even play online that much, so I'm not too bummed out about this.
It's a free service, so, whatever.

I've gotten a couple emails from them yesterday, shame on them for taking so long to tell users about a security compromise.

I don't have a PS3 though. The only Playstation thing I've got is a PSP, which I haven't taken out of the drawer in like 2 years. I can't figure out why they have my info. Maybe I did something with the PSP like downloaded a demo or something.

This is bad news considering there's three people in my house that use the service. I was the one that had to tell the other two since the family when my sister's boyfriend tried to play Mortal Kombat online and he didn't know what was going on.

I have a PSP and I use my sister's PS3 semi-regularly.

Bummer... I liked playing Demon's Souls!

Now i am happy that i didn't listen to my friends who did try to convince to go on online with my PS3. i am not much of an online player anyway. I prefer play my games offline without interruptions from other players.
