going away - The Game Room

So many awesome games... Which are you getting, and why?

So there are about a million games coming out in the next few months. Which ones are you getting, (Or would you get if you had money to do so), and what about those games makes you want to buy them?

Me, I'm getting...

Demon's Souls: Because it's one of the most awesome looking games I've seen in years. Dark fantasy action RPG, with legitimate-but-not-stupid difficulty? Forcing your way into other player's games so you can beat them to death and take their stuff? Mostly realistic physics engine that actually governs the PLAYER instead of just the world around him? Did I mention that it's a modern game that is ACTUALLY HARD?

STATUS: Preordered special edition

Uncharted 2: Uncharted 1 was so awesome that this is a no-brainer, but from what I've seen so far, 2 will actually be BETTER. Shinier graphics, cooler levels, more variety, and an EXTREMELY fun multiplayer (I was in the beta :3 ). Also, stealth apparently plays more of a role, and I love stealth games. And have you seen the reviews? There are like 14 perfect scores for this thing.

STATUS: Going to get if I can get enough money for selling back some old games. If not, I'll wait until it's used.

Brutal Legend: METAL GRRR \m/
This game oozes awesome from all of its pores, and probably its orifices as well. Awesome music plays in the background, enemies get decapitated with an awesome axe, you can play your awesome guitar to make awesome lightning zap awesome things. And BATTLE NUNS. And RUNNING OVER DRUIDS. And JACK BLACK. And OZZIE and FFFFFFFF. Also, I've played the demo like five times now.

STATUS: Probably gonna buy as soon as I have money. Would have preordered if I'd known it was coming out so soon. ):

Dragon Age: Origins: I have trouble putting it into words, really. It just looks so badass. Open world RPG, with a party and changes to the story based on where your character is from (Instead of Bethesda's "Everyone's the same in Prison/In a vault" cop out), relationships and lewts and magicz. It just looks damned awesome.

STATUS: Preordered special edition.

Borderlands: Yes. So much win. 80 BAZILLION GUNS. Enemies exploding based on what body part you hit and what you hit them with. Randomly generated weapons and armor. DIABLO WITH GUNS AND CARS AND ALIENS. With CO-OP. And it's one of the few cel-shaded-kind-of-thing games that I actually think looks good.

STATUS: Preordered.

MAG: 256 player battles. Realistic combat objectives. Pretty cool looking character designs. Generally fun looking gameplay. Looks so awesome I decided to just not get Modern Warfare 2. I wish I'd gotten into the beta. ):

STATUS: Probably going to preorder after Christmas some time.

FFXIII: Two words- Sazh Katzroy. A few more words- Chocobo afro, lesbian motorcycle, haha wow Japan is crazy. Plus, it's a numbered Final Fantasy, so it has to at least be GOOD, if not amazing. And it's what made me decide to get a PS3 in the first place.

STATUS: ... Probably going to convince my parents to get it for me as a gift for my last Christmas before heading off to college. >.>

Monster Hunter 3: Ok, so this is a bit far away, but still. It's MONSTER HUNTER. And as much as I would prefer not to deal with Wii online and all that, it DOES work with a classic controller (And apparently comes with a faux PS controller if you get a bundle or something, I 'dunno exactly). But still. MONSTER HUNTER.

STATUS: Considering. Depends on whether or not I have to pay for the online, and whether or not there's a reasonable chance for a PS3 port (Would make sense, since the PS3 is outselling everything but the DSi in Japan since the Slim came out) in which case I would wait for it on PS3.

tl;dr games with killing stuff

You guys?

Demon's Souls.

Brutal Legend.

Dragon Age: Origins.

Borderlands.

These. Brutal Legend is the only one I'm really looking forward to, though, the demo was fucking awesoooooooome. I've never actually heard of Demon's Souls but it sounds awesome so yeah.

I was looking forward to Assassin's Creed 2 until I replayed the first one recently and rediscovered why I stopped playing it.

No More Heroes 2 because I'm gay for both SUDA51 and Travis Touchdown.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom because of TWENTY BILLION POINTS OF DAMAGE.

It's a shame that all the publishers moved their releases to Spring 2010 because of Modern Warfare 2.

Looking forward to Brutal Legend as well. Looks very cool.
Also anticipating Dead Rising 2 for next year.

I don't want any of those. >:[

Left4Dead2

And... that's it before Christmas I think. Unless the DS Zelda game is gonna come out before then.

Next year, I want me some Bioshock2 and whatever fallout game is gonna come out.

I still want Assassin's Creed 2. Supposedly they learned their lesson on all the things that was wrong with the first, the repetitiveness n' such...we'll see. Either way, I loved the gameplay so I want it.

I'm also looking forward to...
Scribblenauts
Diablo 3...whenever the heck that's coming out.
Mafia 2
Left 4 Dead 2
No More Heroes 2 (Lotta 2's.)
Ooh yeah, I'd like to add Red Dead Redemption to the list!

.....and something else which I was just thinking of but suddenly slipped my mind. >_>

I played the Japanese import of Demon's Souls.

Calling it hard is like saying people in hell want ice water.

This game will ravage you like a peice of fresh meat out of the county van at the state penitentiary. I'm not kidding.

There's about 15 games I have reserved and paid off to include Assassin's Creed 2, Bioshock 2, Uncharted 2, Borderlands, Demon's Souls, Way of the Samurai 3, Left for Dead 2, Starcraft 3, The Old Republic, that other new Star Wars game, and Modern Warfare 2 (Night vision goggles ZOMG).
God needed the Devil, the Beatles needed the Rolling Stones, Hakoshen needs me.
I'm the enemy he requires to define him.
Soon or later, he'll bring me back to life again for another epic encounter of shouting about power levels and grimacing.

hmmm...

Mafia 2, it looks great. I love the time period it set in.

Maybe L4D2, It just doesn't look as good as the first one. For one reason, in day time the colour palette looks bad with the blood. Just from screen shots that is, it's probably still gonna be good. Especially this grave yard bit where everytim you play the tombs switch positions so you never know which way will take you out.

Yeah, I heard about a new Fallout game, probs getting that.

CoD4:2, it looks good, plain and simple... I guess I also want night vison goggles...

and I havem't seen that much of borderlands but it looks very Mad Max-esque. Mad Max is one of my fave movies so I might get that.

Demon's Souls is more than worth it. Too bad you didn't already have one for a preorder though. :3

Also get KZ2 and Valkyria Chronicles. And of course MGS4.

I'm always a sucker for those "wandering around" type of games so I'll probably go for titles like Assassins Creed 2 and Mass Effect 2.

Monster Hunter 3, Uncharted 2, No More Heroes 2, Dead Rising 2, Left4Dead2, Bioshock2, Mafia 2, Diablo 3, Modern Warefare 2, Forza 3, Way of the Samurai 3, MGS4, Killzone 2, Starcraft 3, CoD4:2
OK. I've heard of the term "age of the sequels" but this is just stupid.

Especially this:
CoD4:2

Right... this I'm chucking in the stupid title bin, along with "Final Fantasy X:2" and "Half Life 2, Episode 2".

Now if you'll excuse me. I'm off to play "Son of Mario 2, part 3, episode 1: The Sequel".
Those were my two cents.

I'm impressed Shplane, you actually hit the nail on the head with Demon's Souls. There is something extremely awesome about being able to hijack someone's game and murder them mid-quest.

I do like how you love it so much because its hard, even though you have the CE which only comes with the added bonus of a strategy guide. That sorta defeats the point of it being hard, and also nice way to throw ten bucks down the shitter since the artbook and OST come standard. :V

EDIT: tater wants you to unblock him, something about chatting about games I don tknow.

Meh, the strategy guide was ten bucks. And I'm a whore for anything that says "Special Edition". Stupid, I know.

Game's still a bitch even with the strategy guide. I mostly only use it to find stuff that's getting on my nerves. Player hint messages are more useful half of the time.

10 bucks for a guide that you'll never use simply because you had to have the CE is a gross waste of money. You should have donated that 10 bucks to charity, or buy an SA account if youre so fixed on blowing your cash.

OR like I said in the arkham thread, you can save all the extra money youre blowing on these horrible CE's and use it to buy one more good game. Clearly you dont have the money for Arkham but you have so much disposable income that you can buy a strat. guide you dont need, you can see where your argument has holes in it.

EDIT: in your defense though, had the CE been the only version to come with the artbook and OST I would say you made a good choice, because those are some pretty nice bonus gifts.

Like I said, I know it was pretty stupid. But it was only $10, really, and I'd been excited about this forever and I kind of just thought "Why the hell not?"

I'm not as interested in Arkham Asylum as most. It's something that I'd like to get, but am probably not going to for a while. Too many other games I want more, like Brutal Legend and Uncharted 2. And the Fallout 3 GotY, though I'm probably going to wait to get that until they (Hopefully) patch it. Not that I think the patch will help much, since Bethesda seems to hire semi-sentient sponge people to program.

Probably for the best. It's not as great as it's cracked up to be.

I'm definitely wanting Left 4 Dead 2 and Assassin's Creed 2. As far as the Final Fantasy XIII, I do NOT want the one with Lightning and Snow and whatever (don't know what special name that it has if it does). I saw the trailer and I already am disgusted with the blatant Mary-sue escort game that it is going to be. Like RE:4. It was fun when Ashley wasn't there. I'd rather get Versus and stay far, far away from the other.

SarahN

I dunno, 15 extra missions and many other side quests not integral to the story line that are available at given points during the game play with different outcomes dependent on when you finish them sounds like an improvement to me (run on sentence yeah!). Not to mention that flags and other collectibles are actually worth getting now that you get nice goodies for it.

But don't listen to me, I totally love the first game so my opinion is a little....biased, haha.

My housemate got demons souls.

I'm really really tempted to get it. I'm basically looking forward to Modern Warfare 2 for the 360 (mostly because my friends play it and I liked the first one). Stupid Gamestop employees lying about how the NVG is the real deal. If I REALLY wanted a REAL PVS-7, I would want to spend the $1k to get one. Or $10k for the PVS-14. I make my own special edition package.

And I might get Lego Rock Band for the 360 and PS3.

I'm thinking of getting a Gamefly account for the other games that I know that I'll play once, beat it, and not pick it up again, like assassin's creed 2, the new splinter cell, and anything that I missed.

My housemate picks up all the must get new releases for the PS3, so I just bum off of him.

I will get a 360 or a PS3 by the end of the year, and this ones are the ones that I definitively will get:

-Dante's Inferno: Playing as Dante with the Death's Scythe in the Hell...How NOT get this game?

-Assasssin's Creed 2: First one was awesome, and the 2nd one looks even better.

-Tekken 6: I love fighting games and this looks just great.

-Street Fighter IV: It's Street Fighter, is a must have.

-WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010: Im a big Wrestling fan and just by the amount of options in the Create-A-Wrestler features looks like a promising game.

Just picked up Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Great game, but I would recommend either the classic or gamecube controller for it. D-pad is infinitely superior to using the analog stick.

Beyond that, I'll probably pick up Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend at some point.

-Street Fighter IV: It's Street Fighter, is a must have.

I'd wait for Super Street Fighter IV. It actually has the characters Capcom held out on just so they could release a "Super" version down the line.

After watching some gameplay cids and trailers, I'm kind of considering Fairytale Fights now, too. Seems an interesting mix of brawler, platformer, and excessive cartoon violence. The developer really put some work into the fluid dynamics and physics for the game, plus the combat looks like it could have a bit more depth to it than Castle Crashers. And it's another game supporting 4 player offline coop (and VS) and I need more of those. The VS mode could make for an interesting party game, as well. Lots of weapons.

The only games I'm legitimately excited for right now are ModNation Racers, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, All Points Bulletin, No More Heroes 2, and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift. Oh, and the Silent Hill remake.

Still waiting for Fatal Frame IV to get dragged over here.
