It's always sad to see the demise of a quality network television or internet show. And if it's on TV, it probably has ended up being canceled just as it hit its prime.

So which shows are you most disappointed to see taken off air? And if there aren't any, which shows do you fear to meet that end in the unforeseeable future?

For me, it was recently concluded that the show, Pure Pwnage was to be put on indefinite hold at the reluctance of one of its creators. I had followed it since its beginnings as an internet show and then turning into a legitimate network television show, but that only lasted for one season. I suppose after they didn't receive a renewal, that was a bit of a blow to the entire crew. I enjoyed it for the deep, subtle message that it conveyed, pretty inspirational for the gamer side of me. Not to mention the cast members were all respectable people.

Well, that's about it for my rant on a show I will now miss. Let's hear yours!

Most of the shows I miss had to die because they couldn't keep up the quality/characters (whatever made them special) as they went on season to season, but I was just remembering ER. I use to plan my Thursdays so I could make sure I didn't miss it. There's nothing on these days that has that kind of draw for me.

And then there were two shows that had trouble hitting a pace but I so believed in them: Joan of Arcadia and Pushing Daisies. yanked after only 2 seasons. I'm afeard for Raising Hope.

I'm traumatized for life by the cancellation of Millennium and Carnivale. Those were great, great shows. In its short history, Millennium was basically kicked around by the network execs until they finally pulled the plug, so it always suffered from ups and downs in quality. Carnivale was pretty much spotless, but was cancelled after its second season. I'd sell my soul to get to see its originally planned full six-season run.

Oh yeah; Farscape needed its 5th season and possibly a 6th as well, it was only getting better and better. Criminal to cut it like they did!
That was one of the main reasons I gave up cable and even stopped watching normal tv altogether.

Whenever this topic is introduced somebody always mentions Arrested Development.

I never saw Millennium (I think it was marketed as being too similar to the XFiles, which was running at the same time and had a much bigger fanbase).... but Carnivale's cancellation has haunted me for some time. I was really invested in that series and as you say, it was extremely well done. People didn't like the show's slowish pace at revealing mysteries though, or something, and it cost a lot of money to make, so it got cancelled. And then Lost comes along (which constantly skirts around mysteries and is surely expensive) but because it's more actiony it was a huge hit. I'd far rather have had my 6 seasons of Carnivale than the 6 of Lost. (Although I do like Lost.)

I'd have liked more Deadwood but that storyline felt more or less complete enough when it ended, I believe they rushed some things a bit to get there.

I don't have the dedicated fan devotion to Firefly that some do, but I thought it was a fun show and a lot of stuff could still have been done.

Most other shows, no. I don't watch a lot of TV. The shows I do watch I usually end up stopping before they're done because they start running on too long.

Anyone remember a show from five years ago called Reunion [en.wikipedia.org]? It ran on FOX and was one of those "The whole season is one big story arc" shows that were very popular around that time. Anyway, it got canceled in the middle of its only season, thus leaving it on a permanent cliffhanger. It wasn't a great show, but it didn't deserve the ending it got.

Clone high. One season, was really funny and it ended on a danged cliffhanger.

I miss Lexx, though most thought the randomness of episodes and absence of actual plot was a hindrance to enjoying it :-) Still, it was so quirky I couldn't help but watch it. Back in the day, I actually had the biggest Lexx fansite online (lexxfan.com ... don't go there now, it's probably a porn site or something).

American Gothic was another show I really miss.

Xena, though it ended, it didn't end right.

Fortunately I have all of Brisco County Jr. on DVD, but Bruce had another show right after Xena called Jack Of All Trades which I liked a lot.

Before it tried too much to be like China Beach, I was a big fan of Tour of Duty back in the 80's. Really enjoyed watching that with my mother.

In regards to Star Trek, I also miss The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. I haven't liked anything they've done since then and now the airwaves are strangely devoid of star exploration with introspective aliens.

Online, I really looked forward to watching Dorealous and Associates on the Escapist. It's since gone on hiatus for some movie. Stuff was the high light of my midweek.

The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.

This is one of my favorite shows, and it's so easily available that it depresses me to see it get a total lack of love. The show is about Brisco County Jr. (played by Bruce Campbell), a bounty hunter who is tasked with taking down John Bly and his gang after they escape custody and murder Brisco's father, a famed lawman named Brisco County Sr. (played by R. Lee Ermey). It's soon discovered that Bly is after The Orb, a futuristic object with untold power.

The show expertly mixed sci-fi with western influences, took a lot of archetypes from Unforgiven (the actor who plays Pete Hutter was also in that film), and packs a lot of comedy in there too. Plus Dixie is bonerific. It ran for 24 hour long episodes, and the whole series can be found in one DVD set that usually jumps around in price. Last I saw it, the whole series was 30 bucks. I got mine for 18. That's a hell of a deal for one of the best shows on TV.

If that doesn't sell you, look at it this way: Bruce goddamn Campbell plays a bounty hunter and basically acts very Bruce Campbell-y the whole way through. Also Julius Carry.

Unfortunately it was cut off in its prime, which was worse than some promising series only having a single season run- Farescape was solidly powering through an arc towards a conclusion because they had an almost ironclad assurance of at-least a 5th season, and the show had been ramping up the level of brilliance, style and polish with every season already, delivering full feature film quality.
Some new exec at the US SciFi channel killed it in favour of the very pedestrian Stargate, which was running on and on and on and not delivering anything (to my mind) particularly exceptional or stand-out.

Yeah, I've always sung the praises of LEXX. That was a perfect show. It embaraced the whole B-movie type idea of SciFi and spun an entire universe out of it, it's really totally unique. No one has ever really done that aspect of SciFi before in a TV series. Great actors, great characters!
But LEXX did really come to a perfectly natural end. There's no unfinished business.
Though it would be nice to see Stanley, Xev and Robot-head continuing some adventures in the new little baby Lexx.

Never even herd of it but it does sound awesome.

Brisco County was the quintessential Steam Punk story... you really can't write a steam punk comic without multiple viewing of Brisco County.

It's worth it to see Eva nude.

Xenia wasn't too great until the third series when she got the new hair and really started to make Xev her own, not just a weird version of Zev. That third series was something else. Truly exceptional. Truly.

All of these shows are spectacular mentions. A few I had never heard of, and now I'm tempted to comb the internet searching for episodes from them.

But speaking of shows that went off the air, a few old ones that I remember as a kid are being put back on! Read about it here !

From 1993, Sonic The Hedgehog or Sonic SATAM. Here is a show that last for 2 years. It was well written, dark (especially for a kids show), and just all around a great show.

Of course it, along with the rest of the shows on that block (like Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter cartoons if anyone remembers those lol), were canceled.

Because of that, the season ended on a major cliffhanger. Red eyes appearing the in the background, signifying the introduction of a new villain or whatnot.

Turned out, ABC cancelled their entire lineup because it got destroyed by one TV show. Freaking Power Rangers.

Though, the writers did eventually say what was going to happen in season 3, it definitely ended amidst something great.

I miss that show.... :(
