Really, any fetish, whether you agree with it or not is fine. It's normal.
It becomes ABNORMAL when that behavior becomes maladative:
Maladaptive to one's self - inability to reach goals, to adapt to the demands of life and

Why?

I don't know what you mean by simulated ritual, but bonobos do seem to enjoy sex. They do it for many things, not just conflict resolution. Often there seems to be no reason other than pleasure. Other animals don't French kiss and perform oral sex.

As for DNA. Actually, we share some parts of our DNA with every other organism on the planet. But the point is that bonobo DNA is more similar to human DNA than any other animal, even chimps. Around 98% or something. Bonobos and chimpanzees are different species, btw.

I think the scientific community is pretty much set in the belief that humans, chimps, and bonobos descended from a common ancestor, until someone comes up with evidence to the contrary. Sure, you could say that chimps have similar DNA because they look the same or live in the same environment, but that would be extremely unlikely. DNA affects more than just looks. Similar environments rarely induce similar changes in DNA, especially in different species. Usually, different mutations in both species result in different ways of adapting. It would be quite the coincidence for both species to undergo the same random mutations.

So DNA turns out to be a good guide post in determining ancestry. The more similar the species' DNA, the closer they probably are.

Well I've done the reading from different sources and They are pretty much the same creature. Bonobos are chimps. There is no way they are more alike genetically to humans than they are to Pan troglodytes chimps. They're both considered different species of chimp, so they’re not a subspecies, you’re right there.
Current radical thinking (not generally accepted), seems to be that "chimps" are more alike to humans than they are to apes. Current thinking on genetic similarity to humans and chimps puts it at 97%.

And I mean "ritual" in that it's often not sexual activity, but only the appearance of sexual activity. They act it out as gestures of appeasement, or just some kind of weird social interaction rather than always actually engaging in intercourse, or even seeking it out purely for pleasure. This is a case of humanising animal behaviour a little too freely!
And I feel that the motivation for doing that is to justify such behaviour as “natural” in humans by having an animal example to cite. That strikes me as a little pathetic, not by the people in the forums who’ve mentioned it, but by those who actually champion it. Surely we are intelligent enough and secure enough that we can accept such behaviour as perfectly normal without having to search for analogues and justifications.


As for freaky HUMAN sexual behaviour, it depends in the individual and what they see as normal. Clearly, a lot of you aren’t entirely comfortable with your own sexualities, or you wouldn’t be referring to a lot of what you enjoy as “freaky’ or fetishes. ;)
