I really don't want this to happen.
1. DD will just become one big advertisement for Platinum's future print comics
2. What about the sprite comics? What if they report to Capcom, Sega, Nintendo, ETC. and they sue us for it? Some of these spriters may be poor and if they are sued they may go on welfare! I'm not sure though, but it's possible and I don't want that to happen.
3. I hate major corperations. I never trust them (except for some record companies). They'll look for reasons to sue people to make money, they treat the people who work for them like shit- It's just stupid.

Please don't do this.

The dye is cast. Whether or not you want it to happen at this point is irrelvant. It HAS happened. Platinum Studios OWNS Drunk Duck.

I for one am thinking this is a positive change, but you need to sort things out on your own and make the decision that is comfortable for you.

You can either trust the DD will still be the place to host your comic, or you'll need to make the decision to leave. Sorry to be so blunt, but there it is.

What do you think the chances are of them sueing the sprite comics, at least?

No one will sue sprite comics. The most that will happen is a cease and desist request, where the sprite accounts will have to be deleted from DD.

Now, I am in no way a representative of Platinum or DD under platinum when I say this, but I think it's only a problem if the video game companies make it one.

But that is true whether you're on DD or hosting yourself. If you are using copyrighted material, you have to accept that someone might ask you to stop doing it someday.

Yea, you may have a point there...
It's still a bad idea though.

Most game companies won't bother doing cease and decists unless you're really bad and making the company look bad. Remember, doing that costs money, which a corperation doesn't wanna spend.

Do I get a say?

I think it's good. mm-hmm.

Look, i'm working really hard under funding from Platinum Studios to make this the biggest best duck around for you guys. The way I personally see it is all this work i'm doing is for YOU, not Platinum.

The fact that I now work for PS is a separate arrangement independent of DrunkDuck. I didn't HAVE to work for them. I wasn't obligated due to the sale. I want to be here. I want DrunkDuck to become giant. I want all the plans that PS has revealed to me to come to fruition, because really, when it comes down to it, it's going to benefit all of you guys.

The myriad talents of the web comic world coupled with the power, influence, and experience of Platinum Studios has the potential to do SOMETHING. What? Who can say just yet. At the minimum for those who don't want their day to day life changed likely won't even feel a difference, save some cosmetic or feature modifications.

Platinum has had DrunkDuck over a month already. And what happened? We added a ton of features. When you guys didn't like some of the stuff I personally hand coded, toiling through day and night, in the snow..up hill... both ways... well, we decided if it wasn't good to YOU the community, it just wasn't good. We dumped it and made the changes you wanted that very week ( Some may remember this as v1.1 ). Remember those old pop up ads we used to have on DrunkDuck? When was the last time you saw one? Maybe around the time when Platinum Studios got DrunkDuck? mm-hmm.....

So my recommendation is that until you at least have a reason to suspect anything evil or underhanded, give us the benefit of the doubt and accept the good things we do for the site as just that. Good things.

Well said. Drunk Duck hasn't even made its upgrade yet and people are stretching for reasons to get apprehensive and upset.

DD will just become one big advertisement for Platinum's future print comics

There is no indication that this will be the case yet. Relax.

Bottom line, Drunk Duck / Platinum Studios claims no ownership to your comic or images on your account. If it did, then it would be in trouble with all the sprite comics.

Huh. Sprite comics on DD can now assure people that nothing funny is going on.

I think Volte has made a very interesting point; when PS owned DD and hadn't announced it yet, we were lauding the changes Volte suddenly had the time and energy to implement. So far I've only seen good things come of the sale, and most of the bad things are purely voluntary on the artists' part.

I think the only real complaints have been about how much the site is going to become dedicated to Platinum's comics. Are they going to get better placement on the site than normal comics? Will they get special "rights" that other DDers lack? Personally, I think it'd be cool if they just got plugged into the lists and had to fight it out like the rest of us, but they have got the big bosses funding them and I'd be shocked if they got anything less than banner ads.

I don't mind at all. A better Drunk Duck. Faster load times. Some (more) great comics going to be on here. It's all good.

I can see where it's coming from. If you look at the article, it does say about 100 comics are going to be coming on to DD from Plat. 100 in a short time from one place, is kinda a scary thought. But, not sure how they're gonna do it, so while I worry, I'll wait an see.

There's no longer any point in debating this. Platinum owns DD and that cannot be changed. Now let's just hope they don't pull some stunt like renaming the site 'Platinum Duck'...

Platinum Duck reminds me so much of the days of platinum accounts. There was even a little animation of a platinum duck...all shiny and stuff.

I believe in this phrase:

"Grow or Die"

This is how the world works. If Drunk duck doesn't become bigger it will die. The competition will come up with bigger and better stuff and drunkduck will fall deeper into the shadows. It can't stay the same forever. One always has to come up with bigger and better things to keep up with the competition. I think with this join up Drunkduck has become up to par with or better than any of the free comic hosting on the net. Even Keenspace. (Definally better than Keenspace for sprite comics because Keenspace doesn't allow sprite...to my memory at least.) There's my two cents.

For platinum comics I look forward to Fairy Godfather. Sounds funny.
