Okay, so I made a brand spanking new character a few days ago and put on some colours. Thing is, I don't know which ones to choose. To be quite honest, I have no idea which one to choose since I like them all quite a bit.

I'm still going to tweak 'em a bit for future use, but for now, I have these. Help a fellow Drunk Ducker out?

I think the middle one looks the best.

How about all three? If it's supposed to be a single character popping up then I guess that wouldn't work, but otherwise you could use different color patterns to make it easier for the reader to tell them apart?

Or if it's an entire race, then you could use the markings as a status/class thing...

I think I like the middle one the best, but it depends. The first one looks meaner.

The middle one. The first to the left has the only visible grin while the other two have markings that blend it to look more neutral, as if part of a mask or so. The far right gives me more of a moth feeling with the wing coloration.

right one it looks less cheesy, mouth kind of dissapears though so color it the yellowissh orange color.

Yeah, it's just the one character which is why I'm having such a hard time with it. As far as using the colours for ranking, it's a good idea, but I don't think that would work so much, either. Since the colours of each one is from three different wasp/bee class and ranking is usually depicted as a caste system of sorts. But who am I to talk about the correct set up of a character in the animal kingdom when it's a horrible humanoid bee thing? The one on the left is just the average bee/wasp colouration. The middle is a black wasp. And the right has the colouration of an Asian giant hornet.

It's hard to pick because the all look great. the one factor I would consider is which design goes with the character you are writing. There seems to be a grin on the first one that could be malevolent. The middle one can be a hero or a villain, the same as the one on the right. It all depends on what you are writing.

Something grobles63 said that made me think about this. The middle one and the right one can't really show much emotion, while I think that the middles one looks better, it would be difficult to express emotion with, since the left one has a clearly visible mouth it would be a lot easier. Maybe you could still use the middle one but make his head coloured the same way as the first one, so you van get the best of both worlds.

For the moment, I made this character as being ambiguous in their standing. Which of course, makes it even more difficult. I also wasn't exactly intending for either of the designs to look 'bad' or 'good' but just various designs that apply to the character itself.

Thanks, I'll do some more tweaks. The jaw design really doesn't work out, too much; especially with various expressions. I've tried it and they ended up looking like a horrible, malformed Joker, haha.

I like the first one. My eye is just drawn to it more.
