I usually don't save my old comics/manga, so it was hard to find anything from 2008, meh.

August 14, 2008:

May 1, 2009:

...I should have posted full pages, but the old manga is too embarrassing XD

Sucky, sucky, old stuff.

A panel from a not-so-bad recent comic. I may not be great at art, but I am still pretty proud of the obvious improovements.

Errrr.... By complete coincidence they are both shirtless hairy men... I didn't notice that untill I posted, but I guess that makes the comparison easier.

OK, I'll respond to your challenge...
The trouble is that I've not really improved or changed my style all that much really. My art has always been pretty horrible when I don't put much effort in or when I'm learning a new medium.

I got really good at pencil artwork when I was really little. Here's some early stuff I have on this comp.

This cat guy is from highschool. There wasn't anything like this sort of thing around when I was doing it. I had quite a few drawings of this character :)

This is from around then... I was experimenting with charcoal.

These two are from just after highschool, when I was in art college. They didn't encourage people to work like this though. In fact you usually got told off for doing this sort of thing. I certainly did. :(

This is from quite a few years later, in university. See how crappy figures are here? Thank my lazy figure drawing and terrible inking. Compounded by the garish digital colour job I gave it in 2004. But the thing is that my figure drawing is STILL that bad when I don't concentrate to fix it. It'll prolly always be this way.

And this from last year. My digital colour was much nicer there.

1998:
This is the oldest "real" comic I still have: a minicomic called "Gothbusters!" ... 'Bout what you'd expect. I think I was... uh, 15? 16?

first page of "The Hub"

latest page

I've got pictures of Cutter datin' back to '96, but I don't have 'em on the computer. Which is probably for the better; I kinda sucked a little bit back then. lol!

I love that poison oak thing... and the chars look kinda flapjack-ish! yayy

hm... I'm going to post some old stuff of mine in chronological order. I hoard all my belongings... so there's a few things.

This is pretty hilarious because my mom decided to use my 101 Dalmations journal as her own personal outlet to vent against pedophiles... in retrospect, drawing cartwheeling people and writing the word "yay" is a little insensitive to the family drama at the time (cerca 1995, when I was 8) but in my defense, I didn't know what the word 'pedophile' meant...

this I drew in 1996, according to the page before it, which was describing the dutch girl outfit (depicted here) that I bought for my American Girl doll. So I was 9. The funny thing is, watch my drawing ability apparently deteriorate in the next picture:

The plaintive cry, "Grandma!"
Oh, the tragedy of a seventh-grader. (Done in 2000.)

Done around sophomore year of high school. (2002) I found a whole notebook full of little gems like these-- they were hilarious, even though I did not try at all to draw correctly.

This series was about an unathletic girl and her smoking boyfriend, Smokey Robinson. Most of the jokes revolved around the hellish cesspit of high school, and having a horrible family. The robot is the girl's mother, who hates her.

Since my comic's relatively new, the art hasn't changed too much. So... I'll post the before picture from when I first started seriously illustrating my current story. The time between these two is little over a year's difference.

January 2008: Oh god, this makes me laugh. I can't believe I did this. In my defense, I think I had gotten photoshop like a week before I did it. :D

Today: This isn't exactly a comic, but a character for a comic I'll be illustrating soon.

So...I think maybe I've improved a bit!

I love threads like this!

Pigenwnas? You don't say, past Amy! My first guess was a penguin, but you're right, it's obviously a made-up bird!

Here's some of my art from 1994-5, when I mostly drew weird animal-like people (they weren't anything in particular, I was likely inspired by the Animaniacs who were also "things")

This guy I drew some time in either '97-98, probably 98 though. I was really into White Zombie at this time!

And to my eternal shame, as soon as I started my comic, CTV, my ability really sank because it was my first attempt at drawing "human" characters. I tried to emulate a mixture of Chuck Jones, Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes with some Tim Burton (well, at least the cartoon version of "Beetlejuice") for the characters and failed miserably because I didn't know what made those styles work, obviously! This page (which was actually a redo of a page from 02!) was posted Jan. 6 2004, was my first attempt at photoshop coloring, and sucked to a massive degree!

One year and 6 days later, my art looked like this, thanks to daily updates:

And this page is from a few weeks ago and so far it's one of my personal favorites:

I left my crappy archives mostly unaltered as a message to any would-be comic artists: Don't rush! (and no matter how crappy your start is, you CAN improve at least a little!)

why not...
Here is a very, very, old page from a comic I tried to do way back when.

Here's my first design of Bloodhound over 4 years ago.

Here's my very first page I did for the old version of Bloodhound.
I didn't use MS Paint much when I did it.

Here's a portion of a page when I was kicking in high gear with the power of MS Paint.

and then a year later here's a page from the relaunched Bloodhound where now I use Gimp, Tablet and color.

I am so proud that I never gave up.

Ok I'll show you full pages, cuz I think you need to see how crowded my layouts used to be lol.

Right, this is the first page of my Primeval fancomic that I made in the start of 2008

Here's the last page I did of this comic. Yes, it was a grand total of 8 pages lol, but I think there's improvement.

And here's my first page of Last Of The Wilds, which I made in the end of 2008/ beginning of 2009. not sure when.

And here's the most recent page:

And here's the first page of The Door:

And the most recent page:

Wow, sorry for the massive post. But I think you can see the improvement, over like a year lol

Oh well, since my one rule seems to be that I never use more than one panel:
1:

563

I should note that they are only half a year apart and I don't plan on adding any more detail. I just got better at posing. Or actually, about at 250 I decided to randomly use perspective and realistic body postures and wondered why I never did. It removes the need for a tertiary gender charactaristic.

Huh. Someone else who uses the Segoe Print font, which is the only good thing I've gotten out of Vista.
