I don't update Bad Coffee Very Much, so the art makes weird jumps. But I've gotten a bit better. I'm going to try to update more in ze future.

I just started posting a comic here, so I can't take panels right from that, but here're some excerpts from older one-shot strips I did:

Ok, I'll play.

Here's the cover to one of my first hand-made comics (created for me and friends to read in elementary school);

And while this wasn't for a comic, but a commission, here's a more recent Spider-man vs. Venom image I created last year;

Necro-posting! this is an interesting topic. And I wasn't around when it was born/died.

This is from 2002 (I was... 14? kinda embarrassing...):

this is an early page, page 27, from my old comic Misfit Assassins, from 2006. So I was 19. Actually, I was 18! on the verge of being 19. I started the comic in... June? And my birthday's in July... (but I did like a page a day back then...) ok, I was either a very new 19-year-old, or a very old 18-year-old.

Here I was 200 years -- er, I mean pages-- later, in 2007, age 20:

And now I'm 21, and here's my fave page so far:

there's some progression!!

I love that DBZ one.. I feel the same way. I had a journal in 7th grade, (I threw it away in high school, I was so ashamed of my tween babblings) and in it I would painstakingly detail what had happened that day on Dragonball Z. ( "today frieza killed vegeta and i crieddd!!!" )

I would even head the journal entries "Dear Goku," "Dear Sailor Venus," "Dear Charmander," instead of "Dear Diary."

your old stuff is cool too! maybe not as eyecatching as the second one... but hey, improvement is.. good... *fizzles*

That's insane! but you were always good. Looks like you got better at using photoshop, and the colors are richer in the new one, and the shadowz on the pump-kin...! (& you are SO good @ pshop... tengo celos...)

hey bittertea, why no 2009 pic? (scorch is like becoming a calendar girl.. and she's always miss october.)

You liked 'em skinny, I see... ; D but hey I love that bg!! it's not a bad page at all; I quite like it! (of course your new page is, well, just fantab...)

(the "first page of my comic" for misfas is actually a re-do of a re-do. And someday, I'd like to re-do it again. I ripped up the old first page and flushed it, and the second one I threw in a drawer, ripped into quarters...)
AND I'm gonna have to re-do my new comic's first page. Guh! why bother having a first page at all if it's gonna come out so uuugly?

Wow, Skullbie, I must say you win the award for Most Improvement In 2 Years. I mean, damn! How does anyone do that in 2 years?! Started college major in art or something?

However, it looks like your female lead has man-shoulders and man-hands. Maybe she's not meant to be built svelte, and you may be going for a more "realistic" and less "shoujo" art style... but still.

she is a lesbian...

I think her first page shows promise, though! I've seen a lot of manga-styled comics on DD that were MUCH worse than this (wish-I-could-link-but-I-shan't!).. at least the faces are really well-drawn!

skullbie's style is like the swine flu of dd- it keeps evolving at a terrifyingly fast pace!

Interesting! With most of these pictures I can see little stylistic things that seem to have refined over time. Even if there's improvement with the newer art you I'd perhaps still pick both were done by the same person.

Here's my contribution, with three years between.

Updates Thursdays.

All right. I was going to wait a little bit longer with posting in this thread (until I start drawing Ravensrook) but whatever. Whoever wanted to read Din Krakatau probably did it already so last scene spoilers aren't that big (although I did remove the text from that page anyway).

This is February 2008

and this is... not sure what month anymore... September? October? November? Still 2008 though.

And finally, these aren't a part of any comic book but I went for that feel here and both are from 2009 so anyway...

Hey thanks, I did take a class in college with the right side of the brain book, that's really a great book even experienced artists can learn cool tricks from it. But mostly /ic/ and loomis are what helped me as i mentioned in the 'webcomic mentor' thread, i literally drew nothing but anatomy for months @__@

Yeah shoulders and hands have always been hard for me, i always draw them stiff and upwards (maybe posemaniacs taught me that? lol) I'm pretty sure if i could get some life drawing classes going at school that'd even out. :)

And kristen

This thread is awesome...really cool to look through seeing improvement and all the comics I should probably be reading.

Not my first...but it's pretty early in my comics run, a little over 2 years old

pretty recent. Note that the female in both pages is supposed to be the same character...the design changed over time a lot. My style streamlined a bit too.
Go read my superhero comic...because I told you to

I love these kinds of threads. So many of you have improved so much in such a short time. Makes my past ten years seem like nothing.

Well here are some pages from my first attempt at a manga. The pages are from my story A Shadowlander's Dream.

In 2001 I redrew all of ASD in an attempt to fix a lot of errors I'd made the first time around.

In 2003 I had a crash and took the next 5 years to get back to art, during that time I focused mainly on writing novels. This year I began manga again with my new series Inside OuT

I guess the place I improved the most is in my story telling ability then anything else.

Page 3 of Attempt 3

^^^ (I would've put the actual image here, but I don't feel like resizing, and it's probably big)

This page is from about a year ago. Because back last May, I was doing Attempt 3. I'd say this is my best page from back then.

Page 7 of Chapter 2 of the Comic now

This page was uploaded just yesterday. It's actually one of my best pages so far.

As you can tell, I've improved just...a little bit ;)

I plan on improving a ton more though.
