Scenes from video games that made you cry...

Yes, yes. We all know of that scene from Final Fantasy VII where Aeris dies and Cloud consigns her body to the lake. But are there any other scenes from other games that had this effect on you?

For me it was the ending from Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life. The player character dies suddenly, leaving behind her husband and son. The whole ending just barely brought me to tears as the town remembers her, and we see the fate of her son as well as her husband, who still runs the farm.

No, I'm not "macho" enough to hold my emotions in like I was told to when I was a child. hehe...

Actually, that scene had no effect on me whatsoever, aside from thinking, "Hang on a minute, she's barely been in it long enough for me to remember her name. Am I supposed to care?" What can I say, I'm a cold, cold woman with a heart of ice. XD

The ending to FFIX almost made me cry (a feat in itself) until it turned out it was just a big fakeout and Monkey-man was still alive. Grrrrrrrr.

I didn't care much about Aeris dying either. In fact, I spent most of the game looking forward to it, and quit the game soon afterward. I don't think I'll ever finish it.

I don't think a game has ever been immersive enough to make me cry... or get choked up even. They've gotten me to feel sentimental or touched though. I'll have to think of whatever examples I can.

Well I'm told that I have a heart of stone...

I don't recall any recent videogame that has ever made me feel sentimental enough to the point of crying or even almost crying.
But I do remember when I was younger, I was playing Megaman for the SNES, and there was a cutscene where Roll was killed and I was like NUUUUUUUU. Lawl.

I don't believe I've ever cried at any points during the (few XP) games I've played.
Although I DID almost cry when I finally beat Okami... But I don't think that counts.

I haven't played it yet! I can't bear to do it... Being mean to him is just too hard, with those puppy-dog eyes. Also I screwed it up the time I was going to 'cos I didn't then know you had to talk to Kratos in Flanoir.
I'll do it next playthrough, and I dunno, I might cry.

Anyways, I was trying not to mention Symphonia so I didn't look obsessed. XD

I never really cried because of a game, but I shed a tear at the end of Metal Gear Solid 3.

*SPOILER ALERT*

I had no problems to shoot The Boss, because I've seen hear as nothing more than a simple traitor. But when it turns out that she's a hero, that has died for her country and will be forever loathed for the things she hasn't done, a single tear made it's way on my face. And that was when my mom barged into my room:mad:

I wish I had Okami! I want it bad

..... OK, don't laugh at me, but... I played Kingdom Hearts and cried at the part when Kairi was looking at the drawing of her and Sora. Oh, and I cried in KH2 when Riku and Sora were finally reunited. (I have to admit, that part was a little gay... XD)

Indeed, the ending for MGS 3 was really well done. Hideo really does know how to make a cinematic game. The music and tone was perfect, especially the last scene with Snake.

I played some of FF7 (up to when Aeris got kidnapped right after the destruction of a dome sector). I didn't find her annoying? Maybe she gets more annoying later? I never found out.

It wasn't particularly that she was annoying (although she was next-to-useless in a fight) but just that she wasn't in it long enough and didn't do enough that you actually care when she dies. It only tugged at the heartstrings slightly more than if Sephiroth had run through some random NPC. XD

The default ending of Chrono Trigger, where the adventurers go off in the Epoch and blaze through each timezone once more. Wow. I found myself crying slightly, something of an impossible rarity.

I didn't cry because of the machoness running through my veins that automatically shuts down tears ;) But I would have to say that one of the best dramatical endings is the one for Robotech Battlecry, it showed the true meaning of a hero and sacrifice; additionally, because all the game time you fight through you really become attached to the hero so... when you know what happens it is very moving.

Two games had me close, you know, the whole lump-in-the-throat thing.

The first was *SPOILER* one of the endings to Silent Hill 2, where James was walking through the grave-yard after Laura while there was a voice over of Mary's last letter being read out. It got me going because Mary didn't blame James for euthanising her, and as she read further the letter her voice started breaking with the emotion. It was one of the times when I genuinely felt for the characters in a game.

The other was also a Silent Hill (3 this time) when Heather is listening to the woman confessing to the murder of some children and is willing to spend eternity in hell for her crime of only she can get a glimpse of her own children in heaven. It's a very odd moment.

Most people I know celebrated when Aeris/Aerith (whatever) died.

i've never cried at a video game, but some have got me pretty emotional.

fire emblem on gba
------------------------
the part after you get durandal, where nergal appears with a dragon and durandal automatically kills the dragon. it was the way nergal says it. 'the dragon you have just slayed was your love. that was ninian'

ocarina of time
------------------------
when saria dies. there's no music playing, the world is quiet and link's all alone.

golden sun
------------------------
where your father and jenna's family are trying to help felix, but then the boulder falls and kills them all.

ffx
-------
the whole ending was sad.

ffIV
-------
there were so many deaths in that game, but it was yang's that got me emotional. he was one of my favourite characters, and he shuts himself in a room that's about to blow up. THAT'S what you call a noble death

i never got the whole thing about aerith dying. why couldn't he have just used a phoenix down on her?

THe end part of Shadow of the Collossus got me big time. Ya know, when you've gone through all the trouble and it turns out you fucked up badly and you're gonna die. It wouldn't have been nearly so effective if you didn't have control during it.

The part in KH 2 where you found out that Goofy didn't die.

I was bawlin' like a newborn. "Why? Why must he continue to plague me!"

EDIT:

Seriously though. Shadow of the Colossus and ICO were two of the saddest games in recent memory. Although I laughed at the end of both, a normal person would surely makes rivers from their eye sockets.

Welcome to the academy of the 1337. Try not to get fragged.

You'd think Link's Awakening's ending would be a sad ending, but Link is all happy and cheery at the end (even tho the entire situation is NOT a smile-inducing one) and happy 8-bit music plays while the credits roll.

All I could think was "Jesus you stupid keebler don't you even care??!"

AGREED.

That was one of one of saddest scenes ever. Almost as sad as the MGS3 ending. :(

Also, when Lucian gets framed by Loki in Valkyrie Profile. Lenneth gets all mad at him and he gets executed. :( But then they had to resurrect him at the end.
