I agree, there's just so many talented artists out there who deserve their day in the sun.. Which will probably never come.
That's why the majority of people on here just draw for the love of art itself- I mean, I know This Ego of Mine is really not viable in any other form, but this site lets me put my story out there for others to enjoy(hopefully?).

Hey, if you're willing to put in the work and risk becoming an artist it's possible to get published. But I agree, the comic industry is harsh. Comics have always been sort of a niche market, but American comics are being marginalized even more by the proliferation of manga. When there's such a large volume of affordable comics coming from Japan and being distributed at such a fast pace, American comics can't keep up. Which is why most American comics opt for the "quality over quantity" approach these days, selling in full color with awesome art. Sadly this puts them out of the price range for many people.

However if your good enough you can still get published. What I'm hoping will happen in the next 10 years or so will involve a mixing of the manga and American genres. American comics single issue approach isn't working, and I'm hoping companies will realize that and start concentrating on putting graphic novels at affordable prices on shelves. An American comics magazine with black and white comics for $5-$6 a month wouldn't hurt either.

my dream is to become a professional too. but its sad that people in the comic business here in the states are made to draw remakes of older stories (ie. batman, superman, other super heros). im not saying that those stories are bad but theres nothing wrong with a little originality too. its moreso like that saying make new friends but keep the old... if anyone understands my meaning behind it. ive noticed that the biggest talents in comics are on the internet. im not saying the popular artists arent great but there are also those who have talent but are being overlooked because of them being overshadowed by popularity. it kinda sucks in a way.
