Ha ha, yeah. That tree guy was kinda weird though. I WANTED to... you know... go evil on him but I couldn't. I beat the game, sure. I did every mission. Built every weapon and used them. Hunted down every Easter egg. I sold slaves and donated water to beggars. When it came out, I condemned the expansion for being nothing but running and shooting because it took away from all the other parts of the game I loved. But okay, let me rephrase my statement. Run around, kill stuff, fix stuff, hack stuff, etc., but in the end you're committing murder and breaking and entering, and taking roundabout ways with different perks of doing the same basic tasks in different scenarios. Did you get the achievement for hacking enough terminals? Picking enough locks? Convincing enough people with your speech skill? My point exactly.

Look, we're getting into one of those "I like apples, you like oranges" kinds of arguments. How about we just stop there.
God needed the Devil, the Beatles needed the Rolling Stones, Hakoshen needs me.
I'm the enemy he requires to define him.
Soon or later, he'll bring me back to life again for another epic encounter of shouting about power levels and grimacing.

Whenever I tried to play Fallout 3 I couldn't help but feel like I was playing an MMO without any other players on it. I guess it's this weird combination of customizability, open-endedness, and being slack-jaw bored wandering from one location to the other to complete a mission for some jerk in town so I can get a new pair of pants.

IMO the problem with MMORPGs is that they have no game in it. It's an obvious stick-with-carrot designed for a human to become a rat pushing a lever over and over again.

When you play a real game, you play it because it's a good game. Super Mario Bros, Starcraft, Final Fantasy Tactics, Quake. They're games. They test your mind, they immerse you in another world, while giving you fun. Like chess, like Stratego, like RISK, like a book, etc.

MMOs does not test your reflexes... does not test your analytical skills... does not immerse you in another world... it devolves into fetch-kill tasks with graphics.

I like Runescape and I don't pay to play which is why i like it. It's a great distraction when i want to get away from real life and zone out. I just like the clan wars feature. Late at night when there's nothing to do and I can't sleep yet again, sometimes I find myself playing. Then again... now that I've found all these webcomics I've got a new distraction.
think i'll fly the hell outta here!

Well, although this is a bit off topic but I really enjoy Fallout3. I don't feel that all that it obvious (by which I mean quest and all) is the main way you are supposed to play the game. For instance, once I got the lincoln memoribilia and basically messed about with it and a few corpses. Also, I once used the bloody mess perk and killed lots of different creatures, found various body parts and made a crazy creature on the floor >:)

But anyway back on topic, I do enjoy MMORPGs. I'm currently addicted to WoW, but not because of the quests, but for the Role Play element (which is 1/4 of the name MMORPG). I have a short attention span but Role Playing keeps me occupied for hours a day. In fact I do it so much I think I need help :(
FIGHTSPLOSION 5!!! IT HAS 2 ALIENS, A PIRATE, A HORNY NINJA AND A HOMOCIDAL FIRE PRODUCING PENGUIN! AND A BIRD WOMAN AND A CAT WOMAN!

Also a mute that reminds me of Johnny Bravo and Samuel L Jackson at the same time!

Shade
My major interest in WoW is the lore, Azeroth has an interesting story which piques interests of mine.

Ditto.

Shade
Mind you right now I'm playing City of Heroes/Villains...the character editor on that game is fun in of it's self.

Ditto. The new "Architect" mission creator for CoH is really cool.

I am also playing D&D Online, simply because I've played tabletop D&D in the past and thought it would be fun to try the MMO. It's OK, but totally removes the "roleplaying" part of D&D that makes it fun for some people.

I mainly play MMOs to "escape" for awhile and suck up some time. My husband and I play together, which is always fun.
