Hey does anyone else read this great comic? I just bought the first hardcover edition at a comic convention this weekend and I love it. Brian K Vaughan's writing is superb and Adrian Alphona's art gives me a nostalgic feeling of the old cartoons where facial expressions were exaggerated to the max. I'm itching to do some fanart. Runaways is my first venture back into American comics after becoming obsessed with manga at age 11. In fact, I dislike when Runaways changes its style to manga. If I ever get more money so I can read more of the series I'd love to do a fancomic of it.
Let me know what you think :)

It certainly is one of the best of the mainstream books. You've picked a winner.

Later,

Runaways is awesome, and a goodgateway comic--i.e., good to give to young folks who don't read comics (or at least American ones) and that should get them hooked. I've been meaning to get the hardcover collections.

Read through the first chapters in the comic book.

I wasn't that impressed. Like ALL the kids just automatically turn on the parents when they find out. The parents too just happened to get all evil on them when the kids find out their dark secret. You obey or else. :P You'd think if they raised these kids all their lives they'd have a back up plan for when the kids find out... It's a stretch.

The only thing that might become interesting is the mole parent.. but that's pretty much it.

Once you find out who the mole is, all will be revealed. I think the concept of Runaways is these kids never did trust their parents and like most teens they want to be independent so they originally jump at the chance to ditch their parents and believe the worst about them. But as the story progresses they do feel bad, and the parents do have back up plans, and knew exactly what they would do with their kids once they found out except some of them are corrupted and greedy. It makes more sense once you finish the first arc (1-18) which I read in the hardcover edition.

I spent a few hours in the hospital waiting room drawing Molly, Karolina and Chase. Good waste of time ^_^

The early parts of the story and the reactions of the characters make more sense in the context of the entire first story arc (issues 1-18, as mentioned). I found the narrative fell off a bit in the middle but the last six issues ended the arc on a high note. I'm looking forward to having time to get to the books 4 through 7 (which have been sitting on a table since December-ish because I've had a ton of crap to read for school).

I'm a pretty big fan of Runaways. I really enjoyed the concept and the characters. though my problem is I've missed a lot of issues here and there so I find myself getting lost easily when suddenly there's new characters, somebody has died or what not. Hell I finally found a regular comic shop to go to now and as soon as I picked up the lastest issues I have no clue what's going on. I guess they went back in time or something? I dunno, but it's really annoying that it's been almost three months and the next issue still hasn't come out yet.

Patience man, it's coming out soon!

Runaways is the bomb...great writing always, and the art is always very good. I liked the Cloak and Dagger storylines and this new one Whedon is writing is tops. I highly recommend getting the trades, there in these tight little digest sizes.
